1. You can apply any fragrance. Kadamba fragrance if available, is very good. Usually for prayogas, these are used and also in homa etc. to gain Her favor. 2. Laghu Śyāmala is equated with Ucchiṣṭa Cāṇḍālini Sumukhi devi. Śyāmala Devi is Mantrini and without Her grace, no mantra will fructify.

Namaste Krishnaji, thanks for leading us. It’s Day 7 of 9. I am blissfully following your guidance on each aspect of Devi Shyamala. There is a playful and mysterious air about Shyamala which i find absolutely fascinating, but at the same time this mother is more accessible than the other Dasamahavidyas to me. I also love how you equate her dark color to the universal dark matter which makes up > 99% of the universe. She also does not ask for any set ways of approaching her. In a sense, she is true freedom at best. I wanted to ask 2 follow up questions. 1) I know Mother Shyamala/Matangi loves and resides among Kadamba trees. Would you recommend applying Kadamba flower attar/scent during the mantra sadhana to get more effectiveness? Not sure if there is a precedent in the tantra literature here. 2) I see Sumukhi is an aspect of her as well. But I don’t see this aspect get mentioned for the Magha navaratri Sadhana in your post and also in Kamakoti Mandali and Purnanandalahari sampradayAs. Wondering if you had any opinion on this. Thanks again. Namaste

It is common to see sadhakas confused about Divine Mother Atharvana Bhadrakali. She is not for small things, she is the Mother of Moksha, freeing Her devotees from their karma and the cycle of life, death and rebirth. She is the embodiment of Dharma (righteousness), Satya (truth) and impeccable justice. Most importantly: Pratyangira Devi devours a devotee's karma and answers his prayers, as long as they have pure intentions, take responsibility for their karma and follow the path of Dharma. She as the power to take on Devas, take on Siddhas, take on all other tantric astral being. She's is pure justice and not supporty or lift a single finger for evil sadhakas. If you read her Mantra Khadgamala, you can see all the Kali, all the Bhairavas, all the Bhutganas, Kinnaras, Yakshas, and so on in her force. In front of her ferociousness, no tamas can ever prosper. It is the annihilation power which destroys tamas, just like anti-venom neutralizes venom. Treat her like a mother and follow the path of dharma so that no harm is done to you

The Taraṅgas (chapters) towards the end of Mantra Mahodadhi describe the procedures for determining the suitability of a mantra to an initiate. Yes, this mantra can be given to anyone that a guru considers to be eligible and the guru need not run through the various suitability checks, is what is mentioned as per the note you posted. There are also certain initiatory rites that may be skipped, but the actual initiation itself SHOULD NOT be skipped. You should also probe and investigate why the ṣoḍhā nyāsa and additional nyāsas are described in the same book, along with the pīṭha (pedestal) and āvaraṇa (coverings) pūja. I have been reciting this mantra along with the nyāsas for years now and haven't experienced any powers. A lot of good has happened to us and I have experienced success in many areas. The same has also been true for my family and those associated with me. I certainly bow down to the Divine Mother for Her grace and blessings showered upon all of us. My sincere advice is to try and find a suitable guru, who can assist you with the sadhana. Only when such a guru cannot be found and if the desire is still very strong, you may self-initiate with the steps mentioned on this site and elsewhere as well.

Please don't worry, For maa dakshina kali 22 syllable mantra you don't require any guru initiation or diksha... There is a text, a sacred text, dealing with all sorts of mantras, Tantric mantras included, called "The Mantramahodadhi of Mahidhara" where the mantra I am speaking about is presented. There must be thousands of mantras in that sacred text and only one is readily available to anyone. Page 48, 3rd Taranga states, verse 2-5: "There is no necessity for the purification by means of Siddha or Sadhya procedures. Nor is there necessity of taxing the mind too much or performing the Purascarana (initiatory rites). This is the queen of Mantras. By merely remembering this one gets the eight Supernatural powers."

Namaste Guruji, I have 2 questions, 1. Is it mandate to take headbath daily in order to recite Lalithasahasranamam? 2. My Father passed away 5 months back. Can we recite Lalithasahasranama in my parents house? Do I need to wait for 1 year to recite Lalithasahasranamam? Please answer, Thank you, Anjini

They are not the same. There is a variation in the kavaca (huṁ) and kūrca (hūṃ) bījas, as well as in the position of the bījas with respect to the word "mātaṅgyai". A change in the position of the bījas will make it a different mantra, even if all the bījas and words of the mantra remain the same. Any variation, makes it a different mantra.
