The eclipse effect seems to apply mostly to the region where it can be observed. Penumbral eclipses have fringe effects and can be ignored. In my experience, I have observed and experienced satisfactory results, even when the eclipse was not visible in my region/country/continent. Others may have different experiences and opinions. Please follow whatever suits you best and the advise of your guru is foremost, when it comes to mantra japa. Thank you for the detailed and valuable input!

But Penumbral lunar eclipse is not even considered an eclipse in Hinduism. Thats why no sutak is applicable in this regard as the umbra(if we consider it as rahu) doesn't even touch the moon. And in scriptures if even the Total Eclipse is not visible in your region then its considered useless for any meditational or any other occult practices! So I think for a person involved in spiritual practice in any particular area/place two things is a must. First it should be either total/partial eclipse and secondly it should be visible in that particular area. Firstly it will be an eclipse and secondly being visible in that particular area it will have direct effect on the person's psyche and environment. Its all about the rashmi/kala emanating at that particular time and area that makes the practice powerful. And if the conditions are not fulfilled its considered yet another normal day. Even the temples are opened in penumbral lunar eclipse. And if only the alignment was sufficient for a powerful yoga/combination/muhurat then the shashtra would have spoken otherwise. Well its just a view. I may be wrong. Thanks for your reply.

It is still a lunar eclipse and it's effect will still be there, although not as much as it would be for a full lunar eclipse. The mantra chants will be much higher in power than a normal day/night.

Hi this year Lunar eclipse on 10th Jan is Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in India. From whatever I have read it seems this type of eclipse have no religious significance. And so is the case with mantra sadhana during such Penumbral eclipse. It will be like you are chanting a mantra on any normal days. Whats your view.

Does it mean: if someone has love towards god, as it is an emotion too, he/she doesn't like him/her? Please correct my understanding.

Śrī Sampatkarī can also be worshipped in a similar manner and it's applicable to all devatas. Some dhyāna and other associated śloka-s will be different and have to be recited in place of the current ones. When we perform Śrī Cakra pūja, all the associated Āvaraṇa deities are propitiated and this should be sufficient for the entire Śrī Lalita Mahātripura Sundari pantheon of deities.
