Many sacrifices are done on definite occasions. Some sacrifices are done with specific purposes. There is no definitive answer to this question. It all depends on occasions and purpose.

Both the 114 and 118 mantras are almost identical. The word 'kuru' is to 'act upon'. It is reiterated to request upon the Divine Mother Śrī Vārāhi to immediately act upon our concerns. Both mantras are meant for Śrī Vidya devotees to overcome hurdles in their life. Once all of these are silenced, the Mahāṣoḍaśī mantra is granted, at the discretion of the guru.

Thank for these precious instructions to worship Varahi! Can you please explain the difference between the 114 lettered Sri MahaVarahi Mantra and the 118 lettered Sri MahaVarahi Mantra? I understand that there is an additional "kuru kuru" in the 118 lettered mantra, but what is the significance? Jai Varahi Maa!
