Hello Ravi This is Easter week-end. I wonder then why some temples insist people eat no meat from Friday onwards if you want to go to certain temples on Sunday. Also, if you go to some temples during religious times you are not allowed to go around the Murti if you are not fasting.I remember hearing a story about how Siva blessed a woodcutter even though this man put meat on the Lingam.

Wonderful series with awesome insight. These articles appear as if a lecture is delivered in person. Thank you so much for making Brahma Sutras so simple to understand.

There is no such prescription. If you are talking about mantra siddhi, you have to perform purascharana. For example, if you recite 100,000 japas, 10% of 100,000 i.e. 10,000 oblations should be made and 1000 times tarpana and 100 times mantra bath and finally you have to feed 10 Vedic Scholars. Kavacha-s will not work like moola mantras. Kavaccha means protection. It will only protect from any possible misfortunes, subject to his karmic account.

If you are asking it in plain English (without IAST),I think it is going to be difficult. If in IAST format, I can send you 300 names. If you are interested in this, please send me a mail to my ID ravi@manblunder.com

Ravi, I only know prayers in Roman English - "OM" - I do not speak/read/write any other languages but English. Names or Verse is okay. Thank You!

I have no personal experience on this. But, while reciting certain mantras, it works on mūlādhāra chakra and produce heat and this heat moves to navel chakra affecting one's digestive capacity. If the heat is intent (this is very rare), it affects all the psychic chakras and cause imbalance among them. Remedies in such cases are very limited. One has to consume more of milk and milk related products, fruits, etc to bring down the heat. If one thinks that the heat is too much to bear, then he should strop reciting that mantra. Ultimately, such mantras are to be recited after getting initiated from a proper Guru. He can stop the generation of heat through some means.

There is a lot difference between what Vedas say and what other Scriptures say. Vedas stop with some verses that worship preta, or the dead body. It is the normal respect all of us give to a dead body. Shatra-s are later versions, compiled for convenience. The moment the death happens, the Self within goes away along with sub-conscious mind, either to be born again or for a sojourn in Cosmos or merger with Brahman. If we consider Soul as God Himself, to whom we offer these rituals? To God? Obviously not. How we can do karma for God? Is it right in the first place? Suppose we do karma for the subconscious mind of the departed, do we have enough power to modify his karmic account. Even God does not do this.

Ravi, nowadays in the western world, lets be realistic - what if you have no-one to do any prayers. What happens when all that is done is the dead body is cremeated? Is it okay to throw the ashes in the water? - if you are lucky to have someone to do it. Can such a person say or do any prayers before death? Please give Yama gayatri, mantra, stotra, etc.Thank You!
