When you see a 'ā', it is usually a 'a + a' and the word can be split in such a manner. For example, 'mayūkāvṛte' becomes 'mayūka' + 'avṛte', meaning a peacock and its circle of feathers when dancing. The Divine Mother offers a 360 degree protection, is to be gleaned from it. When we see a word like 'kālasyollāsinīm', the 'o' can be split as 'a + u', such as 'kālasya' + 'ullāsinīm', meaning prevalent and delighted at all times. Sometimes the words cannot be split just like that or an incorrect split can change the meaning.

1. Generally about 1 lakh (100,000). But it can also be akṣara lakṣa, meaning 1 lakh per syllable, totalling 15 lakh or 1.5 million for the root pañcadaśakṣarī mantra. These variations have 3 more additional letters taking it to 1.8 million or 18 lakh mantra japas. You can use a mālā of 108 beads to perform the japa. Each mālā recitation will count as 108 mantra recitations. 2. If you follow the Puraścharaṇa rituals, you can perform a 1/10th of the japa recitations for Homam/fire rituals, followed by another 10th of homam towards tarpaṇa, a further 10th of tarpaṇa (water ritual) towards marjaṇa (water rituals) and a 10th of marjaṇa towards bhojana(feeding scholars). 3. For the fire ritual svāhā should be added at the end of the mantra. Likewise, tarpayāmi for the tarpaṇa etc. 4. You should find this in the Sri Vidya mantras section.

Pranaam Guruji, Can you please enlighten me on the following queries: 1 - What is the prescribed number of recitations for the version 1 mantra ? Is 1 mala jaap of 108 counts Ok? 2 - After recitation, we need to perform oblations in the fire for the mantra how many times? 3 - Should swaha be added after each kuta or after the whole mantra once? 4 - Have you described the detailed ritual of this mantra elsewhere on your website?
