Universal brotherhood is a nice thought and if it really happens, the earth would be heaven. It seems impossible though. We were human beings. We are filled with greed and jealousy. If we need to go ahead, we have to beat someone by hook or by crook. That is the only way to survive in competitive world to earn bread and butter.

Is it possible to know the soul without the assistance of a guru? Or, are some gurus internal -- in other words, meeting him or her in the physical dimension is not required?

I have been reading your blog over the past few days. Spiritual matters are something that we all internally debate and you explain things very well. Besides the detailed and lucid writings - what I particularly like about your writings is that you elaborate upon the different prevailing perspectives and not just your own point of view. The only thing which I wish for (though that's something which I have never found and perhaps never will) is a proper reconciliation of science and spirituality. Sincerely, Voyager

Hello. I just wanted to say that I am very happy to find your blog. I have recently begun a yoga teacher training course in the United States, and have started reading the Yoga Sutras for the first time. This post is serendipitous for me today. Actually, I found your blog over a week ago, and since then, for class, I had to write a paper called, "What is Om?" In it, I explored the connection between the sound of Om and Brahman. So it was great finding your passage here today. You explain this very well. I'm looking forward to reading more!

How logically explained. Amazing.Once in a discussion I had with people talking about right/wrong approach to God who were insisting on some religious as being better than others, I said that paths to Lord may be different in manifestation, but all of them must find their way through Sushumna. It`s beautiful how Vedic science underlines that we are all governed by the same universal law.Swami Vivekananda gave one absolute `must` to the process of Kundalini yoga - chastity. He said that no yoga can happen without chastity. But somehow people reduced this term to bramacarya as sexual abstinence, while it means purity in thoughts, words and deeds - trikarana suddhi - Savitri, Saraswati and Gayatri. Could be that these Three represent also Ida, Pingala and Sushumna.

I`m thinking about meanings of Saraswati implied by the name. It can be Sara (as knowledge) and vati as flow. But it also implies the Mother of creation due to `rasa`. There are seven colors in the Sun`s ray, seven basic meters, seven sages, seven rasas, seven basic tones...

Scholastic interpretation of the Holy Bible are futile and useless as the Word of God becomes alive only in the interaction between priest (Guru) and a devotee, very much like in the process of receiving a mantra described here.Lord Jesus is Guru, embodiment of the Word (Om or pranava) from which everything emerges and that`s what Bible states (In the beginning there was a Word). Lord Jesus met the darkness of the Kali yuga age that accepts falls teachers and is rejecting true spiritual authority. He came to bring light to the fallen Western world. The pride described in this discourse is to be understood as a quality which makes one unable to approach a Guru and to find a guidance without which he is lost. It is said that humility is the only thing a devil cannot achieve. Without humility and sincerity one cannot receive a Word, be it in the form of mantra or in the form of prayer. In the Orthodox Christianity to whom I belong, the spiritual voyage is not possible without a spiritual master or a Guru.Kali yuga is advancing and its description given in the Puranas do resemble what we imagine saying - the end of the world. Maybe, just maybe, Kalki avatar will be the One whom all religions are expecting. That would be the only way of entering Satya yuga - reestablishing of Sanatana Dharma.

What is atma bija, i.e. how it is determined? Is the described procedure necessary for prasidha mantras also?
