Namaste Guruji: Your patience to listen to the practitioners and care shown to provide detailed reply is unique and really appreciable. I liked the part most "he shorter part of the mantra in inhalation and the longer in exhalation" as the exhalation is supposed to be slow and longer than the inhalation. Thank you with pranam.

It is best to meditate upon the meaning of the verses and engage the mind upon it. If you are able to focus on a light and remain still, then that is fine as well. If you are performing japa, then you can recite a couple of verses and contemplate upon the Divine Mother. It is most important that we focus upon Her while chanting the mantra and not on our desires or anything else.

What is presented here is also what you are asking to be corrected. There are also other variations of the Pañcapūjā, which are practiced as well. We have listed what is most commonly used and it also exactly what you are asking.

Please take initiation from a practicing guru. All aspects of the mantra japa MUST be followed. In addition one must also perform the āvaraṇa pūja at regular intervals and recite the pāṭala and sahasranāma also, along with the kavaca and other stotras that may be suggested by the guru. This mantra is not suggested for self-initiation. It is best to seek guidance from a guru and follow the advice.

This varies per person. It is best NOT to exert oneself to try and fit the mantra, within a breathing cycle. If it requires more than one breathing cycle, so be it. Whatever calms our mind and arrests our attention, that should be the key. Over a period of time, when we are able to hold on to our breath for longer retention, then we can consider adjusting the mantra accordingly. The simplest for most people, is to work with just inhalation and exhalation. The shorter part of the mantra in inhalation and the longer in exhalation. It is very important that the breath must slow down and one should feel extremely relaxed with this exercise. If it is causing undue stress, then we are not going in the correct direction.

The corrections have been made. The devata is śrīmat pratyaṅgirā as mentioned in the verse.

Hello sir, namaste! This dhyana shloka is hard to pronounce. Also as Maa is form less, can we skip chanting this shloka and just meditate on her imagining a light? Or is it compulsory to meditate on the form mentioned in Dhyana Shloka?
