(श्रीऋणमोचनमहागणपतिस्तोत्रम्)

Prologue - The Gāṇapatyas worship Śrī Mahāgaṇapati as the Supreme Parabrahman denoting the super-consciousness. The same is also highlighted in the Gaṇapatyatharvaśīrṣa upaṇiṣad. In this debt removing storam hymn of Lord Mahāgaṇapati, all five primordial acts (pañcakṛtyas) of Creation (Sṛṣṭi), Sustenance (Sthiti), Destruction (Saṁhāra/Laya), Concealment (Tirodhāna/Anākhya) and Revelation (Anugraha/Bhāsa) are signified and the śloka verses implore Lord Śrī Mahāgaṇapati to shower His infinite grace upon us, to rid us of all financial and karmic debt forever and lead us to the state of spiritual emancipation or ultimate liberation - mokṣa. This stotram should be recited at dawn, noon and dusk to symbolically bring about a significant change in our lives in tune with the changing light. Recitation spanning six months is expected to yield the desired results when performed with sincerity and deep reverence to the Lord.

Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -

asya śrīṛṇamocana mahāgaṇapati stotrasya

śukrācārya ṛṣiḥ

anuṣṭup chandaḥ

śrīṛṇamocaka mahāgaṇapatir devatā

mama ṛṇamocana mahāgaṇapati prasāda siddhyarthe jape viniyogaḥ

अस्य श्रीऋणमोचनमहागणपतिस्तोत्रस्य ।

शुक्राचार्य ऋषिः ।

अनुष्टुप्छन्दः ।

श्रीऋणमोचक महागणपतिर्देवता ।

मम ऋणमोचनमहागणपतिप्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning - This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Mahāgaṇapati in our heart, perform mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in the removal of all debts – financial and karmic. The sage who visually saw this mantra (ṛṣiḥ) is Śukrācārya. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is Anuṣṭup of thirty-two syllables and its variations. The deity is Śrī Ṛṇamocaka Mahāgaṇapati devata.

By the grace of Śrī Mahāgaṇapati, may all our financial and karmic debts be vanquished forever!

Dhyānam (ध्यानम्) -

raktāṅgaṃ raktavastraṃ sitakusumagaṇaiḥ pūjitaṃ raktagandhaiḥ

kṣīrābdhau ratnapīṭhe surataruvimale ratnasiṃhāsanastham

dorbhiḥ pāśāṅkuśeṣṭābhaya-dharamatulaṃ candramauliṃ triṇetraṃ

dhyāyet śāntyarthamīśaṃ gaṇapatimamalaṃ śrīsametaṃ prasannam

रक्ताङ्गं रक्तवस्त्रं सितकुसुमगणैः पूजितं रक्तगन्धैः

क्षीराब्धौ रत्नपीठे सुरतरुविमले रत्नसिंहासनस्थम् ।

दोर्भिः पाशाङ्कुशेष्टाभयधरमतुलं चन्द्रमौलिं त्रिणेत्रं

ध्यायेत् शान्त्यर्थमीशं गणपतिममलं श्रीसमेतं प्रसन्नम् ॥

Salutations to the most benevolent Śrī Mahāgaṇapati of bright red complexion adorned in red garments and worshipped by offering heaps of white oleander flowers and red sandalwood paste. He has emerged from the ocean of super-consciousness and is seated upon a lion throne of studded jewels surrounded by exotic wish-fulfilling trees like kalpavṛkṣa etc and an abundance of exotic jewels all around. He displays in His four arms – a rope (pāśa) and an elephant goad (aṅkuśa) in His upper arms and the wish granting vara mudrā and the fear allaying abhaya mudrā in His lower arms. He is adorned with a crescent moon on His forehead and is three-eyed. He is the grantor of contentment, prosperity, peace and complete fulfillment of all wishes and desires. He is together with His śakti Śrī Siddhalakṣmī who empowers and grants prosperity, health, education, progeny and stupendous success in multitude!

The crescent moon denotes the descent of the super-consciousness into the material realm. The three eyes denote the attributes and powers of the Agni, Sūrya and Candra maṇḍalas. The pāśa reins us in, when we stray away from the spiritual path and lose sight of the Lord. The Aṅkuśa binds us to our true purpose of both material and spiritual fulfillment besides accumulating abundant good karma and virtues. The jewels and studded lion throne denote the complete activation of the higher spiritual cakras and nāḍi orifices in our astral body. The divine exotic trees modulate and elevate our consciousness in the causal body and release us of all karma.

smarāmi deva deveśaṃ vakratuṇḍamahābalam

ṣaḍakṣaraṃ kṛpāsindhuṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 1

स्मरामि देव देवेशं वक्रतुण्डं महाबलम् ।

षडक्षरं कृपासिन्धुं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ १ ॥

May we contemplate on the Supreme Lord who is the head of all divinities. He appears with a curved trunk (vakratuṇḍa) denoting the curved path of the kuṇḍalinī śakti traversing through the spinal cord suṣumna nāḍi, supported by the left channel iḍa nāḍi and the right piṅgala nāḍi. The helical structure of the paths of the iḍa and piṅgala correspond to the curved trunk. He is of enormous strength (mahābala) and is undefeated in all His accomplishments. His divine name Mahāgaṇapati is six lettered (ṣaḍakṣaraṃ) and He is the embodiment of deep compassion and love (kṛpāsindhuṃ). He is the remover of all debt (ṛṇamukta). May we offer our salutations with deep reverence and contemplate upon Him to shower His mercy and grace upon us all!

ekākṣaraṃ hyekadantamekaṃ brahma sanātanam

ekamevādvitīyaṃ ca namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 2

एकाक्षरं ह्येकदन्तमेकं ब्रह्म सनातनम् ।

एकमेवाद्वितीयं च नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ २ ॥

He denotes the essence of the single letter (ekākṣaraṃ) seed - om̐ (ॐ). His elephant head bears a single tusk (ekadantam) and He is verily the embodiment of the Supreme Brahman – the eternal super-consciousness. He denotes the essence of Advaita – the doctrine of the Supreme singularity (advitīyaṃ) of the super-consciousness. Salutations to that Divine Singularity Śrī Mahāgaṇapati who relieves us from all debts and bondage and frees us completely!

mahāgaṇapatiṃ devaṃ mahāsattvaṃ(mahāsetuṃ) mahābalam

mahāvighnaharaṃ śambhoḥ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 3

महागणपतिं देवं महासत्त्वं (महासेतुं) महाबलम् ।

महाविघ्नहरं शम्भोः नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ३ ॥

He is Śrī Mahāgaṇapati, the head of all sentient beings and insentient matter. In the descent of the super-consciousness, Lord Mahāgaṇapati assumes various forms of Gaṇeśa to partner with the sound syllable Mātṛkā śaktis (the first nyāsa of the Śrī Lalitā Ṣoḍhā nyāsa). The confluence of time and energies represented in Lord Gaṇeśa combine with the seed sound vibrations of the Mātṛkā śaktis to manifest the entire Creation. The Mātṛkā śaktis are Gaṇas and He leads them as Śrī Mahāgaṇapati.

He is of the essence of the Supreme Parabrahman and is therefore the embodiment of nature itself - Mahāsattva.

Mahāsetuṃ - He is the bridge for the ascension of all souls to realize their true nature as fragments and fractals of the super-consciousness.

He is the most powerful and is incomparable in strength – mahābalam. He has the power to Create, Sustain and Destroy and embodies all the subsidiary powers associated with the Creation. There is nothing that is unachievable for Him, as He is the embodiment of everything in existence!

Mahāvighnaharaṃ - He is the remover of all types of obstacles, no matter the size, nature and severity.

Śambho – He is the Supreme Lord and the greatest benefactor of the sentient beings and insentient matter. He has no equal.

May the Supreme Lord Śrī Mahāgaṇapati relieve us of the bondage of loans and debts and clear all karmic obstacles and lead us to self-realization!

(śuklāmbaraṃ śuklavarṇaṃ śuklagandhānulepanam

sarvaśuklamayaṃ devaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 4 ॥)

(शुक्लाम्बरं शुक्लवर्णं शुक्लगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

सर्वशुक्लमयं देवं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ४ ॥)

Salutations to the One who is adorned in pure white clothing (śuklāmbaraṃ) denoting external purity and sattva guṇa.

Śukla-varṇaṃ - of pure white complexion denoting an unblemished personality and purity. He denotes the act of Creation (Sṛṣṭi).

Śukla-gandhānulepanam – One who is anointed with white unguents enhancing His appearance and denoting all His actions that are performed without seeking any favors from the Creation. He denotes peace and serenity in all aspects.

Sarva-śuklamayaṃ - One whose actions are an open book and is the most auspicious and benevolent in His actions. One who cannot be faulted in any manner!

May the pure spirit that the Supreme Lord Śrī Mahāgaapati embodies and denotes, relieve us of all debts and grant us immense peace, health and prosperity in all ways!

kṛṣṇāmbaraṃ kṛṣṇa-varṇaṃ kṛṣṇagandhānulepanam

kṛṣṇa-sarpopavītaṃ ca namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 4 ॥ (kṛṣṇa-yajñopavītaṃ)

कृष्णाम्बरं कृष्णवर्णं कृष्णगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

कृष्णसर्पोपवीतं च नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ४ ॥ (कृष्णयज्ञोपवीतं)

Salutations to the One who is adorned in dark clothing (kṛṣṇāmbaraṃ) denoting all the secrets of the Creation, time cycles of past, present, future etc. He denotes the aggressive tamasic guṇa.

Kṛṣṇa-varṇaṃ - One who is of dark complexion embodying all the secrets of time, fate and the undisclosed karmas within Himself. He denotes the act of Destruction and Transformation (Saṁhāra/Laya).

Kṛṣṇa-gandhānulepanam – One who is anointed with dark unguents lending a dark glow. The significance is that He is the keeper of all secrets and also denotes the act of Destruction and Transformation allowing the karma to set in and do the needful.

Kṛṣṇa-sarpopavītaṃ (kṛṣṇa-yajñopavītaṃ) – One who has a black serpent wrapped on His torso like a sacred thread. He is the embodiment of all knowledge and is the master of dark arts associated with the acts of violence, destruction and damage. The Divine Lord represents both good and bad and is beyond it as well. There is nothing that is not an act of God.

May the Lord Śrī Mahāgaṇapati who embodies the act of Destruction and Transformation vanquish our debts in all possible ways without leaving any remainder and grant us tranquility and abundance on all fronts.

raktāmbaraṃ rakta-varṇaṃ raktagandhānulepanam

rakta-puṣpa-priyaṃ devaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 5 (rakta-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ)

रक्ताम्बरं रक्तवर्णं रक्तगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

रक्तपुष्पप्रियं देवं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ५ ॥ (रक्तपुष्पैः पूज्यमानं)

Salutations to the One who is clad in red garments (raktāmbaraṃ) denoting the rajasic guṇa of passion, desires and action.

Rakta-varṇaṃ - One who is of reddish complexion denoting the acts of Sustenance (Sthiti), passion to accomplish tasks and fulfill desires.

Rakta-gandhānulepanam – One who is anointed with red unguents lending a bright red appearance. The significance is the drive to accomplish tasks and continue to pursue all dreams and desires till they’re fulfilled.

Rakta-puṣpa-priyaṃ (rakta-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ) - One who is adorned with red flowers and is very fond of them. The acts of accomplishing all tasks and obtaining cherished desires is denoted.

May the Lord Śrī Mahāgaapati who embodies the act of Sustenance, help us overcome all our debts in every possible way without leaving any remainder and grant us tranquility and abundance on all fronts.

pītāmbaraṃ pīta-varṇaṃ pīta-gandhānulepanam

pīta-puṣpa-priyaṃ devaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 6 ॥ (pīta-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ)

पीताम्बरं पीतवर्णं पीतगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

पीतपुष्पप्रियं देवं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ६ ॥ (पीतपुष्पैः पूज्यमानं)

Salutations to the One who is adorned in golden yellow garments (pītāmbaraṃ) and is Haridrā Gaṇapati, denoting the fourth act of Concealment and Annihilation (Tirodhāna/Anākhya).

Pīta-varṇaṃ - of golden yellowish complexion denoting wealth, prosperity, annihilation of all miseries and health issues, as well as the fourth state of Turīya, leading to the experience of self-realization.

Pīta-gandhānulepanam – Anointed with golden yellow unguents lending a dazzling golden brilliance. This denotes His propensity towards dispensing immense wealth – both material and spiritual. Considering the deeper spiritual aspects of this form of Lord Gaṇeśa, the scale certainly tilts more towards the spiritual.

Pīta-puṣpa-priyaṃ (pīta-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ) - One who is adorned with golden yellow flowers and is very fond of them. The act of Turīya leading to the experience of self-realization is significantly denoted as the most cherished desire.

May the deeply spiritual aspect of Lord Śrī Mahāgaṇapati who grants us self-realization, end all the material and karmic debts to free us from all types of attachments and bondage.

dhūmrāmbaraṃ(dhūmrākaṃ) dhūmra-varṇaṃ dhūmra-gandhānulepanam

homa dhūma-priyaṃ devaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 7 ॥ (dhūmra-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ)

(sarva-sarvātmakaṃ sarvaṃ varṇaṃ sarva-gandhānulepanam

Sarva-puṣpai pūjyamānaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye ॥)

धूम्राम्बरं(धूम्राक्षं) धूम्रवर्णं धूम्रगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

होम धूमप्रियं देवं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ७ ॥ (धूम्रपुष्पैः पूज्यमानं)

(सर्वसर्वात्मकं सर्वं वर्णं सर्वगन्धानुलेपनम् ।

सर्वपुष्पै पूज्यमानं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥)

Salutations to the One who is adorned in smoky gray clothing [dhūmrāmbaraṃ(dhūmrākṣaṃ)] and is Dhūmra Gaṇapati denoting the complete dissolution of all karma and attachments to merge into the Paramātma (super-consciousness). This is the fifth state of Revelation – Turīyatīta (Anugraha/Bhāsa).

Dhūmra-varṇaṃ - of smoky gray complexion denoting the severance of all attachments and karmas.

Dhūmra-gandhānulepanam – Anointed with smoky-gray unguents dulling His appearance. Spiritually, this attribute denotes the detachment from all wants and desires and freeing oneself from all types of karmic debts and bondage to attain the state of ultimate liberation – mokṣa.

Homa dhūma-priyaṃ (dhūmra-puṣpaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ) – One who is adorned with the ash from a firepit used for fire offerings – homa. Extinguishing all desires, attachments and karma is denoted. The act of ultimate liberation - mokṣa is signified and the attainment of the ultimate desire is witnessed.

[Sarva-sarvātmakaṃ - One who is a constituent of everthing denoting the confluence of both material and spiritual aspects of the Creation and the combination of all the five states of Creation, Sustenance, Destruction, Concealment and Revelation ultimately leading towards the merger into the Supreme super-consciousness.

Sarvaṃ varṇaṃ - - One who is of myriad complexions denoting the complete mix of material and spiritual desires and the severance of all attachments and karmic bondage.

Sarva-gandhānulepanam - One who is anointed with unguents of all colors and shades. This attribute denotes His presence in everything, everywhere and at all times. Spiritually this attribute denotes that the ultimate goal that trumps every achievement, is liberation - mokṣa obtained as a result of complete severance of all karma.

Sarva-puṣpai pūjyamānaṃ - One who is worshipped with flowers of all hues and types. All paths lead to the Divine Lord and the ultimate goal of our existence is to seek liberation - mokṣa and merge into the super-consciousness which is Śrī Mahāgaṇapati Himself!]

May the deeply spiritual aspect of Lord Śrī Mahāgaṇapati as Dhūmra Gaṇapati, who leads us to the state of ultimate liberation - mokṣa, end all the material and karmic debts to free us from all types of attachments and bondage.

bhāla-netraṃ bhāla-candraṃ pāśāṅkuśa-dharaṃ vibhum

cāmarālaṅkṛtaṃ devaṃ namāmi ṛṇamuktaye 8

भालनेत्रं भालचन्द्रं पाशाङ्कुशधरं विभुम् ।

चामरालङ्कृतं देवं नमामि ऋणमुक्तये ॥ ८ ॥

Salutations to the One who is three-eyed (bhāla-netraṃ), adorns a crescent moon on His forehead (bhāla-candraṃ) and bears a rope (pāśa) and a goad (aṅkuśa) in His arms. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent (vibhum) and fanned by a whisk (cāmara). O Lord, please free us from all types of debts and bestow immense happiness and contentment.

The third-eye is the spiritual eye denoted by the awakening of the Ājñā cakra and the crescent moon denotes the descent of the super-consciousness into the crucible of the material Creation. The pāśa reins us in when we stray away from our true purpose of self-realization and liberation and the aṅkuśa binds us to the same stated purpose!

idaṃ tvṛṇaharaṃ stotraṃ sandhyāyāṃ yaḥ paṭhennaraḥ । (trisandhyaṃ yaḥ paṭhennaraḥ)

ṣaṇmāsābhyantareṇaiva ṛṇamukto bhaviṣyati 9

(ṣaṇmāsābhyantare tasya ṛṇacchedo na saṃśayaḥ

sahasradaśakaṃ kṛtvā ṛṇamukto dhanī bhavet ॥)

इदं त्वृणहरं स्तोत्रं सन्ध्यायां यः पठेन्नरः । (त्रिसन्ध्यं यः पठेन्नरः)

षण्मासाभ्यन्तरेणैव ऋणमुक्तो भविष्यति ॥ ९ ॥

(षण्मासाभ्यन्तरे तस्य ऋणच्छेदो न संशयः ।

सहस्रदशकं कृत्वा ऋणमुक्तो धनी भवेत् ॥)

This debt removing Ṛṇaharaṃ stotraṃ must be recited at the break of dawn, noon and dusk and if performed regularly for six months in succession, all debts are assuredly removed by the grace of Śrī Mahāgaṇapati. In addition, those who recite this stotram ten thousand times will also experience the removal of all debts and accumulation of sufficient wealth!
