Navagraha pīḍāhara stotram (नवग्रहपीडाहरस्तोत्रम् )
Prologue –
The Navagrahas or the nine heavenly bodies that have the most significant and profound effects on our lives are the primary source of misery faced by us. Their transit or placement in unfavorable combinations or houses of our birth chart, results in the manifestation of harmful effects and miserable conditions faced by us. This stotram is deployed to pray to these graha Lords and seek their immense grace in erasing the malevolent effects and bestowing happiness and contentment in our lives. Daily recitation of this stotram is recommended to prevent any major disasters and to overcome all difficulties caused by the grahas.
grahāṇām-ādir-ādityo lokarakṣaṇa-kārakaḥ ।
viṣamasthāna-saṃbhūtāṃ pīḍāṃ haratu me raviḥ ॥ 1 ॥
ग्रहाणामादिरादित्यो लोकरक्षणकारकः ।
विषमस्थानसंभूतां पीडां हरतु मे रविः ॥ १ ॥
O Lord Sūrya (Āditya), the foremost among the nine navagraha heavenly bodies impacting the lives of all residents of Earth, you are the Protector of the world without whose presence and assistance, the Earth and other planets would cease to exist and there would be no life. O Lord, you are the very reason for the existence and sustenance of life on Earth! May all unfavorable positions or transits occupied by the Sun in relation to our birth charts and the resultant malefic effects, be erased by your most benevolent grace. We bow reverently and seek your protection at all times.
rohiṇīśaḥ sudhāmūrtiḥ sudhāgātraḥ sudhāśanaḥ ।
viṣamasthānasaṃbhūtāṃ pīḍāṃ haratu me vidhuḥ ॥ 2 ॥
रोहिणीशः सुधामूर्तिः सुधागात्रः सुधाशनः ।
विषमस्थानसंभूतां पीडां हरतु मे विधुः ॥ २ ॥
O Lord Candra (Vibhu), the One who is most favorably disposed towards the Rohiṇī nakṣatra (asterism) and is the very essence of the cerebral nectar Sudhā and the cause of it. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the moon in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace.
bhūmiputro mahātejā jagatāṃ bhayakṛt sadā ।
vṛṣṭikṛdvṛṣṭihartā ca pīḍāṃ haratu me kujaḥ ॥ 3 ॥
भूमिपुत्रो महातेजा जगतां भयकृत् सदा ।
वृष्टिकृद्वृष्टिहर्ता च पीडां हरतु मे कुजः ॥ ३ ॥
O Lord Maṅgala, the One who is of the essence of Earth and shines forth brilliantly with a red glow and is the cause of great fear in all due to your fury and punishing nature! O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the planet Mars in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace to usher in happiness and remove all fears, calamities, reversal, major diseases, loans and all other miseries.
utpātarūpo jagatāṃ candraputro mahādyutiḥ ।
sūryapriyakaro vidvān pīḍāṃ haratu me budhaḥ ॥ 4 ॥
उत्पातरूपो जगतां चन्द्रपुत्रो महाद्युतिः ।
सूर्यप्रियकरो विद्वान् पीडां हरतु मे बुधः ॥ ४ ॥
O Lord Budha, the One who warns the world about all major calamities and miseries affecting us. You are of the same essence as the moon and have a brilliant luster. You are a friend of Lord Sūrya and are placed close to His transits. You are the bestower of great intellect and prudence. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the planet Mercury in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace to usher in happiness, knowledge, speedy completion of all tasks and removal of all misery.
deva-mantrī viśālākṣaḥ sadā lokahite rataḥ ।
aneka-śiṣya-sampūrṇaḥ pīḍāṃ haratu me guruḥ ॥ 5 ॥
देवमन्त्री विशालाक्षः सदा लोकहिते रतः ।
अनेकशिष्यसम्पूर्णः पीडां हरतु मे गुरुः ॥ ५ ॥
daitya-mantrī gurusteṣāṃ prāṇadaśca mahāmatiḥ ।
prabhustārāgrahāṇāṃ ca pīḍāṃ haratu me bhṛguḥ ॥ 6 ॥
दैत्यमन्त्री गुरुस्तेषां प्राणदश्च महामतिः ।
प्रभुस्ताराग्रहाणां च पीडां हरतु मे भृगुः ॥ ६ ॥
O Lord Bhṛgu (Śukra), the Guru of all celestial daityas (asuras) and malevolent beings. The One who has immense knowledge and knows the means of granting life even to the dead and is the master of the Mṛtasañjīvanī vidyā and is very wise and a brilliant strategist. O Lord, you are the deemed leader and guide of all astersims and stars as well as planets within them. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the planet Venus in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace for our complete welfare.
sūryaputro dīrghadeho viśālākṣaḥ śivapriyaḥ ।
mandacāraḥ prasannātmā pīḍāṃ haratu me śaniḥ ॥ 7 ॥
सूर्यपुत्रो दीर्घदेहो विशालाक्षः शिवप्रियः ।
मन्दचारः प्रसन्नात्मा पीडां हरतु मे शनिः ॥ ७ ॥
O Lord Śani, you are the shadow self of Lord Sūrya (son of Lord Sūrya and Chāya - the shadowy essence of the Sun). You are huge in appearance and have a very wide and long cast upon our lives. You are highly favored by Lord Śiva (Rudra) and are very slow in your movement and transit in the zodiac. You are pleased by virtuous deeds of your devotees and are extremely favorable to them and otherwise very harmful and punishing in meting out karmic deliverance. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the planet Saturn in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace for our complete welfare and peace of mind.
mahāśirā mahāvaktro dīrghadaṃṣṭro mahābalaḥ ।
atanuścordhvakeśaśca pīḍāṃ haratu me tamaḥ ॥ 8 ॥
महाशिरा महावक्त्रो दीर्घदंष्ट्रो महाबलः ।
अतनुश्चोर्ध्वकेशश्च पीडां हरतु मे तमः ॥ ८ ॥
O Lord Rāhu, you have a very large head and a wide gaping mouth with humungous sharp teeth. You are extremely strong and enormous. You have long hair and possess no torso and cast very harmful and dangerous effects upon the denizens of Earth. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the graha Rāhu (Dragon’s head) in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace for the graceful removal of all the harmful and dangerous effects arising from you and seek your benevolence for our complete welfare.
anekarūpavarṇaiśca śataśo'tha sahasraśaḥ ।
utpātarūpo jagatāṃ pīḍāṃ haratu me śikhī ॥ 9 ॥
अनेकरूपवर्णैश्च शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः ।
उत्पातरूपो जगतां पीडां हरतु मे शिखी ॥ ९ ॥
O Lord Ketu (Śikhī), the headless One and also appearing in innumerable forms and complexions. You herald and are the cause of great disasters and dangers upon the denizens of Earth. O Lord, may all unfavorable transits and placements of the graha Ketu (Dragon’s tail) in our birth charts and their resultant malefic effects be erased by your most benevolent grace. We pray to you reverently and seek your grace for the graceful removal of all the harmful and dangerous effects arising from you and seek your benevolence for our complete welfare.
॥ iti Navagraha pīḍāhara stotraṃ sampūrṇam ॥
॥ इति नवग्रहपीडाहरस्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
