Meaning: Salutations to the white complexioned Lord Śrī Mrtyuñjaya, who is seated on a wide lotus adorned with a dazzling crown with a crescent moon decorating it. He holds two vessels in His upper arms pouring nectar upon Him. In His other arms, he displays the jñāna mudra, a rope (pāśa), Vedas and the Akṣa māla. He is fully adorned with quartz crystals and silvery pearls all over His body. He is three-eyed representing the moon, fire and sun maṇḍalas.
The amṛta nectar vessels represent longevity. The jñāna mudra represents wisdom. The pāśa is for attracting the pāśus - the souls that have gone wayward. The Vedas represent all the scriptural knowledge for both material and spiritual gains. The Akṣa māla represents the mātṛkā śaktis present in the entire Creation.
Śrī Mrtyuñjaya removes the delusion of our identity with the body and frees us from the bondage of karma, to ascend spiritually by overcoming all obstacles, be they planetary, materialistic or spiritual. The realization of our true self frees us from the fear of death, as the soul is deathless and is one and the same as the super-consciousness.

The 3 lettered Śrī Mrtyuñjaya mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.
Meaning -
This is a three syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –
- The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ (ॐ) consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, ‘m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
- The aṃṛta, mṛtyuñjaya bīja (seed) mantra jūm̐ (जूँ) consists of – ‘j’ indicates Jaya or victory, repha ‘ū’ indicates Vidārī denoting an incision or tearing apart, ‘m̐’ denotes nāda indicating parā or śakti and vindu indicates duḥkhahara or removal of all miseries. Overall, the aṃṛta, mṛtyuñjaya bīja succeeds in tearing apart all types of fears, diseases and prolongs the life expectancy of the sādhakas.
- The bīja/seed mantra “saḥ (सः)”, represents the culmination of all knowledge needed to ascend materially and spiritually and attain self-realization, to proceed further towards liberation.
Salutations to the highly revered Divine in the form of Śrī Mrtyuñjaya (form of Lord Śiva Himself) who bestows complete protection from all miseries, disasters, dangers, graha doṣas, diseases, adverse health conditions and bad karma and awakens the inner self within by absorbing all our karma into Himself.
He grants longevity and spiritual knowledge that leads to our realization as to our deathless Self – the pure super-consciousness known as Brahman.
