श्री मन्नारायणाष्टाक्षरी मन्त्र सिद्ध्यर्थे श्रीगुरोरनुज्ञाया महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगः

 

Meaning - This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Lakṣmī Nārāyaṇa in our heart, perform mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, including the four puruṣārthasdharma (following own nature), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and all desires that one may seek from the Divine. The sage who visually saw this mantra (ṛṣiḥ) is Śiva/Rudra the Destroyer. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is triṣṭup of forty-four syllables and its variations. The deity is śrīlakṣmīnārāyaṇa devatā, the seed (bījaṃ) is śrīm̐, the power (śakti) is hrīm̐. The key (kīlaka) that binds the mantra is om̐. By the grace and command of our guru and the guru lineage, we pledge to undertake the mantra japa in full earnest.

ॐ ह्रः श्रः - करतलकर पृष्ठाभ्यां फट्

Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

Open the right thumb and touch the back of the head. This is the point where there is a tuft of hair.

ॐ ह्रैँ श्रैँ - कवचाय हुं

Cross both the hands and touch both shoulders with the palms.

om̐ hraum̐ śraum̐ - netratrayāya vauṣaṭ

ॐ ह्रौँ श्रौँ - नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट्

Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra.

om̐ hraḥ śraḥ - astrāya phaṭ

ॐ ह्रः श्रः - अस्त्राय फट्

Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.

iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ

इति षडङ्ग न्यासः

Thus ends the six-part Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsa.

 

bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ

भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् इति दिग्बन्धः

Meaning: May the directions be charmed and bound, to prevent any external obstacles from the powers residing in the triads – the Earth, atmosphere and the heavens.

 

  1. Mudras (मुद्रा)

Cakra (चक्र) mudrā must be displayed thrice with the utterance of the following mantra –

 

sudarśanāya hetirājāyate namaḥ

सुदर्शनाय हेतिराजायते नमः ।

 

May the king of all weapons - the Sudarśana cakra, protect us at all times and drive away all the negativity around us!

 

  1. Dhyānam (ध्यानम् ) -

pūrṇenduvadanaṃ pītavasanaṃ kamalāsanam

lakṣmyā śritaṃ caturbāhuṃ lakṣmīnārāyaṇaṃ bhaje

पूर्णेन्दुवदनं पीतवसनं कमलासनम् ।

लक्ष्म्या श्रितं चतुर्बाहुं लक्ष्मीनारायणं भजे ॥

 

Meaning: Let us meditate upon the Divine Mother Śrī Lakṣmī, whose face is brilliantly white like a full moon, wearing golden garments and seated upon a lotus with Her four-armed consort Śrī Nārāyaṇa. May the Divine Lords grant wealth, status, prosperity, health and all our wishes and continue to take care of our welfare at all times.

हँ आकाशात्मने पुष्पम् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the thumbs of both hands with the upper tip of the index fingers.

ya vāyvyātmane dhūpam kalpayāmi namaḥ

यँ वाय्व्यात्मने धूपम् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

ram̐ vahnyātmane dīpam kalpayāmi namaḥ

रँ वह्न्यात्मने दीपम् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

vam̐ amṛtātmane naivedyam kalpayāmi namaḥ

वँ अमृतात्मने नैवेद्यम् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

sam̐ sarvātmane karpūramiśrita tāmbūlādi sarvopacārān kalpayāmi namaḥ

सँ सर्वात्मने कर्पूरमिश्रित ताम्बूलादि सर्वोपचारान् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of the fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

  1. Japamālā mantraṃ (जपमाला मन्त्रं) :-

Recite the below mantra once, to pray to the japa māla and invoke the blessings for a fruitful japa.

 

om̐ māṃ māle mahāmāye sarvamantra svarūpiṇi
caturvarga stvayinyasta stasmānye siddhidā bhava

ॐ मां माले महामाये सर्वमन्त्र स्वरूपिणि ।
चतुर्वर्ग स्त्वयिन्यस्त स्तस्मान्ये सिद्धिदा भव॥

 

  1. Guru Mantra (गुरु मन्त्र) :-

Recite the following guru mantra once, to seek the blessings of all gurus and the Guru.

 

om̐ hrīm̐ siddhaguro prasīda hrīm̐ om̐

ॐ ह्रीं सिद्धगुरो प्रसीद ह्रीं ॐ ।

 

  1. Utkīlana mantra (उत्कीलन मन्त्र) :-

Recite the following unpinning mantra ten times –

 

hrīm̐ hsauḥ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ lakṣmīnārāyaṇa hrīm̐ namaḥ om̐

ह्रीँ ह्सौः ह्रीँ श्रीँ लक्ष्मीनारायण ह्रीँ नमः ॐ ॥

 

  1. Sañjīvana mantra (सञ्जीवन मन्त्र) :-

Recite the following life-infusing mantra ten times –

 

hrīm̐ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ om̐ lakṣmīnārāyaṇāya namaḥ

ह्रीँ ह्रीँ श्रीँ ॐ लक्ष्मीनारायणाय नमः ॥

 

  1. Śāpavimocana mantra (शापविमोचन मन्त्र) :-

Recite the following curse removing mantra ten times –

 

om̐ hrīm̐ hsauḥ brahmaśāpam mocaya mocaya hrīm̐ śrīm̐ svāhā

ॐ ह्रीँ ह्सौः ब्रह्मशापम् मोचय मोचय ह्रीँ श्रीँ स्वाहा ॥

 

  1. Mūla Mantraḥ (मन्त्रः) -

 

om̐ hrīm̐ hsauḥ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ lakṣmīnārāyaṇāya nama

ॐ ह्रीँ ह्सौः ह्रीँ श्रीँ लक्ष्मीनारायणाय नमः ॥

 

The 14 lettered Śrīman Nārāyaṇa mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is required.

 

Meaning -

This is a fourteen syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –

 

  1. The Tārā bīja (seed) mantra om̐ helps us navigate across the life cycle of life and death. It is also the Śabda Brahman representing auspiciousness. The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ () consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness. It is also the cause of sṛṣṭi, sthiti and pralay It is the primordial sound of the Creation.

 

  1. The Kāmakalākālī and Mahāmāyā bīja (seed) mantra hrīm̐ represents all the triads, such as Creation, Preservation and Destruction. It also signifies concentration, power, ambition and the drive to accomplish the desired results. The Bhuvaneśvarī bīja (seed) mantra “hrī (ह्रीँ) consists of – ‘h’ => Brahman/śiva, ‘r’ => Prakṛti meaning nature and Repha meaning, fire and drive within us, ‘ī’ => Mahāmāyā the cosmic virtual reality and also the energy and source of all power that helps us ascend, ‘m̐ => removal of all miseries and facilitator of self-realization and ultimate liberation.

In addition, ‘h’ represents the ether (ākāśa) and the infinite, ‘r’ represents the fire (agni), ‘ī’ is air (vāyu). Adding the Earth (pṛthvī) element along with Water (jala), completes all the natural elements that are responsible for the Creation and Sustenance. The Divine Mother Bhuvaneśvarī, is the Universal Mother and is the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer of all the three realms called as bhūḥ (Terrestrial), bhuvaḥ (Celestial) and svaḥ (Infernal). The triads are also representative and inclusive of the physical, astral and causal bodies. The letter ’ denoting nāda-bindu, is for removal of all miseries and facilitation of self-realization and ultimate liberation.

Overall, this bīja represents power and authority of all types. It is also called the tantra praṇava, equating its status with the om̐ bīja.

 

  1. The Prasādapara bīja/seed mantra “hsauḥ (ह्सौः)“ represents self-realization and liberation. It is the combination of ‘h’ indicating Śiva – the static super-consciousness and the parā bīja/seed mantra ‘sauḥ’ representing self-realization and liberation.
  2. The mantra hrīm̐ is repeated again for enhanced power and manifestation of its all round benefits.
  3. The bīja (seed) mantra “śrīm̐ (श्रीँ)” consists of – ś’ indicates Mahālakṣmī, repha ‘r’ indicates dhana or wealth, ‘ī’ indicates tuṣṭi or satisfaction, m̐’ denotes nāda indicating parā or śakti and vindu indicates duḥkhahara or removal of all miseries. This bīja denotes the fruition of all our desires.
  4. The word “lakṣmī-nārāyaṇāya (नारायणाय)” refers to the Lord of all sentient beings and the insentient matter in the entire Creation. His consort and śakti is the Divine Mother Śrī Lakṣmī, the bestower of abundance, prosperity, status, auspiciousness, health and wealth.
  5. The bīja (seed) mantra namaḥ (नमो) refers to our salutations to the Divine and constitutes a bond that is nurtured in our heart.

 

Salutations to the highly revered Divine in the form of Śrī Lakṣmī Nārāyaṇa to remove all our impurities and bestow His complete grace upon us to lead a happy and contented life and also realize the purpose of our existence in the form of self-realization.

 

  1. Sampuṭīkaraṇa mantra (सम्पुटीकरण मन्त्र) :-

 

Recite the following mantra ten times to realize the full benefits of the mantra, ONLY after completing the Puraścaraṇa of any of the main mantras described in the preceding section 13. The sampuṭīkaraṇa, helps in realizing the fruits of the mantra –

 

namaḥ om̐ hrīm̐ hsauḥ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ lakṣminārāyaṇāya namaḥ namaḥ

  1. Japānamtaraṃ mālāmantraṃ (जपानन्तरं मालामन्त्रं) :-

Recite the below śloka and mantra, followed by placing the māla upon the top of the head and then place it back in the māla bag and conceal it. It should NOT be worn.

śloka om̐ tvaṃ māle sarvadevānāṃ prītidā śubhadā bhava

śubhaṃ kuruṣya me bhadre yaśo vīryaṃ ca dehime

श्लोक ॐ त्वं माले सर्वदेवानां प्रीतिदा शुभदा भव।

शुभं कुरुष्य मे भद्रे यशो वीर्यं च देहिमे॥

siddhirbhavatu me deva tvat prasadān mayī sthirā

गुह्यादि गुह्य गोप्त्वात्वम् गृहणास्मत् कृतं जपं ।

सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत् प्रसदान् मयी स्थिरा

 

Meaning: O Lord, you are the most hidden secret of all secrets. May these mantra japa counts performed by me, be offered to you in totality. Our prayers and hope, are that your grace shall remain with us always.
