We meditate upon the terrifying form of the Divine Mother Śūlinī Devī, seated on a menacing lion, with a dark complexion resembling that of a storm-cloud. She hold a trident (śūla), arrows (bāṇa), sword (kṛpāṇa), a discus (ari), a mace (gada), bow (cāpa) and a noose (pāśa). She has the luster of a moon and has three eyes (elevated ājñā cakra). She is served by four warrior maidens holding shields (kheṭakas) guarding access to Her from the four directions, and She inspires terror amongst the forces of our enemies (Karmas), who do not stand a chance against Her.

9. Atha Śrī Pañcadaśākṣara Śūlinī Durgā Mantraḥ (अथ श्री पञ्चदशाक्षर शूलिनी दुर्गा मन्त्रः) :

Recite any of the following mantras at least 108 times, preferably on a rudrakṣa or turmeric māla. The following variations exist for the same mantra. Note that adding ‘om̐’ is considered auspicious and is generally recommended.

a. jvala jvala śūlinī duṣṭagrahaṃ hum̐ phaṭ svāhā

ज्वल ज्वल शूलिनी दुष्टग्रहं हुँ फट् स्वाहा ।

b. om̐ jvala jvala śūlinī duṣṭagrahaṃ hum̐ phaṭ svāhā

ॐ ज्वल ज्वल शूलिनी दुष्टग्रहं हुँ फट् स्वाहा ।

c. jvala jvala śūlinī duṣṭagrahān hum̐ phaṭ svāhā

ज्वल ज्वल शूलिनी दुष्टग्रहान् हुँ फट् स्वाहा ।

d. om̐ jvala jvala śūlinī duṣṭagrahān hum̐ phaṭ svāhā

ॐ ज्वल ज्वल शूलिनी दुष्टग्रहान् हुँ फट् स्वाहा ।

When choosing the mantras (c) or (d) above, make the necessary variations in the nyāsā-s to replace ‘duṣṭagrahaṃ’ with ‘duṣṭagrahān’ where present.

Meaning:-

‘Jvala’ stands for light, fire, brilliance, resplendence etc.

‘duṣṭa-grahaṃ’ means afflicted planet(s) in one’s birth chart that causes a lot of distress, loss and evil effects on an individual.

The bīja (seed) mantra ‘hum̐’ represents subjugation of senses and destruction of thoughts and other obstacles afflicting spiritual and material progress.

The astra/weapon bīja (seed) mantra ‘phaṭ’ represents vanquishing all obstacles and karmas affecting our progress.

‘svāhā’ means oblations.

Śūlinī represents all triads such as Creation, Preservation and Destruction, Physical, astral and causal bodies etc. She represents the virtual reality that we live in.

This fifteen lettered mantra is a prayer to the terrific lion riding warrior Goddess Śrī Śūlinī Durgā, an aspect of Durgā, to shower Her mercy and become pleased with our devotion and remove all health related issues and deadly as well as painful diseases and health conditions, remove planetary afflictions, remove all enmity, and to bless us with auspiciousness, abundant material and spiritual wealth and also fulfill all our desires.
