ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे॥ om aiṁ hrīṁ klīṁ cāmuṇḍāyai vicce ||
Śrī Vidyā guru Shri Jothi Agaval states - "The nine letters of the Triśakti Cāmuṇḍā Mantra mean the Nine Āvaraṇas of the Śrīcakra and are on par with the Śrīvidyā Mantra. Triśakti Cāmuṇḍā should be worshiped at midnight to obtain maximum benefit. The complete worship procedure of Triśakti Cāmuṇḍā has the Caṇḍikāsaptaśatī as its central core. The Guru explains the esoteric meaning of all parts of the Caṇḍikāsaptaśatī and the nine-letter Mantra. Then the devotee practices this daily and gets complete success. When Lalitā becomes very excited about a battle, she takes this form. One of the curiosities of Triśakti Cāmuṇḍā is that she is never furious or angry, she acts with complete violence against her enemies while smiling and laughing with excitement for the battle. She likes to fight, always. Therefore, devotees who have ambitious material and spiritual goals should not be afraid, as she likes challenges. The more difficult the objective is, the more enthusiastic and violent this Mother becomes. Her ideal devotee is one who enjoys battle in all aspects of life."

It is said that if one initiated in Sri Vidya, they can chant any mantra without formal initiation. Is it true? If yes why?
So does it mean that initiation to Maharaja Shodashi is sufficient to chant any mantras or is there any preconditions

Chanting any mantra without initiation applies only if one is initiated into Mahashodashi mantra only. But there is no purpose in chanting any other mantra, if one is initiated into Mahashodashi mantra. Too many mantras will seriously hamper spiritual progress.

Thank you. Is there any technical reason as to why initiation to maha sodashi, paves the way to chant any mantra without initiation. Is it the structure of the mantra or is it the vibration aspect of this mantra makes the body suitable for chanting any mantras.

There are few reasons. One is the formulation of the mantra with powerful sampuṭīkaraṇa. Second, it encompasses Turya Gayatri. Third, choice and placements of bījākṣara-s. And above all, when we reach sarvānandamaya cakra (9th āvaraṇa), we would have paid our respects to all other devatas. These are some of the reasons.

How many times should one recite this mantra for health benefit... I have started this mantra as per the above mentioned system without initiation, except in pancha pooja my grandfather has taught me vam apathmane jalam kalyan as I enquire with my uncle regarding this. For that he said as we r from apasthamba sutra so that's why we follow this system. Kindly throw light on the same

Total number of repetitions prescribed for performing purascharana for this mantra is 400,000. Generally, one will feel the effect of any mantra after approximately after 25,000 counts. Per day count depends upon our convenience.
You can modify panchpuja as mentioned by your uncle. This is perfectly fine.

There is no need to add extra counts. Extra counts are based on beeds in a mālā, say, 51, 54 or 108. It is enough if count is made for 100, 1000, 5000, etc.

Panchapuja in japa is done only mentally. Taking this into account, we use fingers (running of fingers as per karanyasa) and mentally offer panchapuja.

This can be explained from a Anusvāra (अनुस्वार) and Anunāsika (अनुनासिक) perspective. The anusvāra vowels are generally pronounced with a 'm' (म्) sound, but more specifically with a "ṃ"(ं). When the anusvāras are nasalized, it becomes a anunāsika and a 'n' (न्) sound gets introduced. When the bījā akṣarās are prononunced with the mouth the 'm' sound becomes more prominent and when nasalized, the 'n' sound gets generated in a subtle manner. When "OM" (ॐ) is pronounced as "om" (ओम्), the mouth closes on the 'm' sound, but the breath comes out of the mouth when the lips open up. However, if "OM" is pronounced as "oṃ" (ॐ), then the breath is let out of the nose with the lips closed. This generates a subtle 'n' sound, due to the nasal cavity. Keeping this theory in mind, the same "oṃ" can be changed to "ong" or "onm". Keep in mind that the 'n' sound should be very subtle and the 'g' sound is almost silent. The 'g' is simply there to get the 'n' sound. Symbolically, the candrabindu at the top represents the nasalized sound. That is, the breath while pronouncing the vowel should come out of the nose, rather than the mouth. To keep things easier, it's best to generate the 'ṃ' sound (not 'm') rather than the 'n' sound explicitly. So basically, the mantra below is best when prononunced with the 'ṁ' endings coming out of the nose than the mouth (usually, this is what happens naturally, but just make sure that there's no breath in the mouth). "om aiṁ hrīṁ klīṁ cāmuṇḍāyai vicce" ("ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे॥") OR ("ॐ ऐँ ह्रीँ क्लीँ चामुण्डायै विच्चे॥") The nasal representation above is represented by the candrabindu(ँ) "m̐" rather than the regular bindu(ं) "ṃ". Both representations are correct in Sanskrit. The other literal representation in English as "ong aing hrīng klīng cāmuṇḍāyai vicce" is ("ॐ ऐँ ह्रीँ क्लीँ चामुण्डायै विच्चे॥") AND NOT "ओन्ग् ऐन्ग् ह्रीन्ग् क्लीन्ग् चामुण्डायै विच्चे" The 'ng' part is more of a nasal pronunciation rather than a literal representation. This is also one of the reasons why a guru is suggested, to get the correct sound and hear the sound of the mantra from him/her. There is no secret other than the fact that it could be pronounced with the mouth or through the nasal cavity. Sometimes, a little practice might be required to get this and also in some cases, one might prefer to let out the breath through the mouth than the nose (stuffy nose situations) etc. Also, the advice of the guru is supreme and one can follow the same sampradāya. There is much debate among scholars as to whether anusvāra is right or anunāsika is the correct way. The Anunāsika is more easier in some cases such as the word 'mantra'(मन्त्र) vs 'maṃtra'(मंत्र). Please choose what's best for you and go with it. For those who practice mantra japa mentally and align their breath, none of this applies, as no actual sound is generated externally.

Dear Krishna, with all due respects to your explanation, somewhere I feel that it is not just about pronunciation the way you have explained. I was also very curious about the difference between Aim or Aing, Shreem or Shreeng and was doing lot of search. Finally I found this video which seems to be very convincing. Request you to please watch this video especially from 28th minute or 31st minute. I think here the explanation is more scientific and clearly explains the difference.

Dear Santosh, The co-relation to the soma cakra and the bijā mantras ending with "ṃ" or "ng" , from a kaulācāra and vāmācāra perspective, is very informative and new to me! Thank you for sharing the video link. The cerbro spinal fluid that gets generated from the pineal gland, is best withheld through the Khecarī Mudrā. The cerebro spinal fluid getting replenished with the angkāra and/or with liquor/madya in controlled quantities, is not supported by all sāmpradāyas or traditions. The guru is supreme in all these aspects and one should follow the tradition and mantras suggested, including the pronunciation. Those practicing the tantric way, must seek the proper guidance of a guru and proceed accordingly. As a note, I have performed the śrī mātangi sadhana on the guidance of a vāmācāra tantric guru using the 'ng' pronunciation. He did insist that I follow the same mantra pronunciation. I followed the same tradition for the śrī bagalāmukhi and śrī ucchiṣṭa gaṇapati sādhanas that I was initiated into, as well. My śrī vidyā guru insisted that I perform the śrī vidyā mantra sādhanas with the "ṃ" pronunciation. The "ṃ" pronunciation is very widely accepted down in the south by both tantrics and vedic folks and considered very safe. Based on my practice with both "ng" and "ṃ" pronunciations, My preference is to the "ṃ" method. Honestly, I did not notice any replenishment nor replacement of any cerebro-spinal fluids with the mantras I continue to practice. This aspect is more applicable at the highest levels of sādhana and kuṇḍalini activation.

Dear Krishna, yes am in total agreement with you and we should follow the instructions given by the Sri Guru to the dot. I also try to practice the way it is been taught by Sri Ravi Guruji without any dilution. Since I was always curious to know the differences between Aim or Aing, I thought this video will give a different perspective. I am not sure about the results as I have not practiced in both the ways.

Just another note on the ‘ng’ and ‘ṃ’ pronunciations from a tantra perspective. The ‘ng’ (angakār) pronunciation is purely vamacāri and later adopted by kaulacāris. Also, it’s specific to North East and North India, the fountainhead of Tantras. The ‘ṃ’ (makār) pronunciation is Vedic and safest, and also adopted by all margās or traditions across South India. The ‘ng’ one is supposed to be “very powerful” and therefore may require intoxication, sex etc, as per Kaulācāris and Vāmācāris. Having practiced both ‘ng’ and ‘ṃ’ versions of the exact same mantras (mātangi, bagalā, ucchiṣṭa gaṇapati) over several years, I can categorically say that both have the same effect and there’s no “requirement” as such. Besides, None of this information has been documented on the angakārs pronunciation, or commented upon by great kaulācāryās like Bhaskara rāya Mākin etc. in any of the major or minor tantra shastras or bhashyās (commentaries). This is more of an oral tradition that's being followed by tantrics from certain regions. Nevertheless, great tantric masters like Harish Jowari and others have used the 'ng' pronunciation and spelling in their English translation of the tantric mantras. One can follow the tradition that appeals to them the most.

I'm not aware of chapter 22 in the Mahākāla samhita guhyakālī khaṇḍa or the kāmakālakālī khaṇḍa. Can you please specify the reference text, author and anything else that can help us find the information?

I don't know much either, its found in chapter 22nd and some say kāmakālakālī khaṇḍa of Mahakala Samhita. Its all about the sadhana of Mahakaal Himself. Its also mentioned that Kuber become Kuber by the grace of the sadhana of Mahakaal and Rawan was blessed by the grace of Mahakaal through the sadhana. Its about "time" Kaal, thats all I know.

Thank you! I have read the description in the link you have provided. However, I'm interested in the deciphering the meaning given in the Śrīdevyatharvaśīrṣam, in the sloka given above. vāṅmāyā brahmasūstasmāt ṣaṣṭhaṃ vaktrasamanvitam suryo ̕vāmaśrotrabindusaṃyuktaṣṭāttṛtīyakaḥ । nārāyaṇena saṃmiśro vāyuścādharayuk tataḥ vicce navārṇako ̕rṇaḥ syānmahadānandadāyakaḥ ॥20॥

The śloka is what is called a "mantroddhāra" verse that is used for deriving the mantras. You have clearly mentioned how the mantra is derived from this verse, by splitting each of the words.
vāṅmāyā
This can be split as “vāṅ” a plural for “vāc” meaning word or words and “māyā” the cosmic illusion that we live in.
Brahmasūstasmāt
This word can be split as “brahmasūḥ” and “tasmāt”. The word “brahmasūḥ”, means the son of the Creator Lord Brahma, which is a reference to the Kāma deva, the god of love and attraction. The word “tasmāt” means “therefore”.
ṣaṣṭhaṃ
This word means the sixth. In this context it is the sixth consonant of the Sanskrit Alphabet which is ‘ca’.
Vaktrasamanvitam
This word is split as “vaktra” meaning “mouth” and also represented by the Sanskrit alphabet “ā” and the word “samanvitam” means “combined”. In this context ‘ca’ + ‘ā’ = ‘cā’.
Suryo
Belonging to the Lord Surya or the Sun god. The tantric syllable associated is ‘ma’.
vāmaśrotrabindusaṃyuktaṣṭāttṛtīyakaḥ
The word is split as “vāma” meaning “left”, “śrotra” meaning “ear”, “bindu” meaning “dot”, “saṃyukta” meaning “combined”, “aṣṭa” meaning “eight”, “tṛtīyaka” meaning “the third” and in this context, the third consonant from ‘ṭa’, which is ‘ḍa’ in the third row (varga) of consonants.
nārāyaṇena
Associated with “nārāyaṇa” and in the tantric context it’s the letter ‘ā’.
saṃmiśro
Mixed with.
Vāyuścādharayuk
This word is split as ‘vāyuśca’, belonging to the god of wind Vāyu, ‘adhara’ meaning ‘lips’, ‘yuk’ is ‘combined’. The tantric letters associated with these words are ‘ai’ and ‘m’.
Tatah
This word means ‘there upon or further’
Vicce
This word has an esoteric meaning which is explained in the Śrī Siddhakuñjikā Stotram.
navārṇako ̕rṇaḥ syānmahadānandadāyakaḥ
This nine lettered mantra brings great pleasure and ultimate bliss to the seeker.
The combined gross meaning is that Śrī Caṇḍikā is the amalgamation of the knowledge bestowing Śrī Sarasvati, bountiful Śrī Lakṣmi and the power manifesting Śrī Durgā.

It is always best to do the mantra japa with the proper japa vidhi process. So yes, you should be reciting the Viniyoga, nyāsa, dhyāna etc. with the mantra. It is also important to follow the Mantra pañcāṅga and follow the Yantra Āvaraṇa pūja, recite Kavaca, Stotras etc on a regular basis as well. This would definitely help in the faster realization of the mantra benefits.

Some say pranava should not to added to Devi mantras as it may absorb the power of mantra, and result may delayed is it true?

There are many mantras that have the Praṇava Bīja "Oṃ" in the front and sometimes also at the end. Please do understand that it is also one of the Divine Mother Tārā devi's bīja mantras.

Sir, I am a bit confused with the beej mentioned for Shakti, Keelak it says ह्रां बीजं। ह्रीं शक्तिः। ह्रूं कीलकम्॥ but as per the general saying, the keelak and shakti has to be one from the mantra itself. But the mantra donot have ह्रां OR ह्रूं Kindly clarify my doubt

Follow the guru who has initiated you into this mantra and recite accordingly. What has been published here is correct in our opinion. Also, there is no compulsion that the bīja, śakti and kīlaka should be part of the main mantra. Please don't go by general sayings, but refer to authentic sources for knowledge and seek the assistance of a proper guru to begin your spiritual practice.

We are not aware of it and hence it is not published. In case anybody is aware of the same, they are free to post as a reply to your message. You may deploy any of the generic stotras that we have published for this purpose and accomplish the needful. Please be aware that an extremely potent and powerful mantra such as this, requires an initiation from a practicing guru.

Thanks Guruji. Will wait for someone who might know to respond with the info I was looking for (hope Jaganmata will provide me the info thru this medium). I agree with your statement on the initiation part, I was initiated into this mantra by my Guru (along with Bala and Panchadasi) more than 20 years ago. But I wasn’t told about Shapavimochana mantras at that time so I have been practising then ever since without the same. When I saw the information on this blog regarding Shapavimochana mantra for other Srividya mantras like Bala, I was curious about the same for Chandi Navakshari also. To seek clarification from my Guru on the same, he’s already attained the feet of Jaganmata, hence I asked here.

Raviji what is the 32 letter beej mantra of Devi UGRACHANDA? Can you post it with the esoteric meaning?

It could be a reference to the 32 lettered UgraTārā mantra or a completely different mantra that we are unaware of at this time.

Sir what is the mantra for Ugrachanda, the goddess mentioned in Kalika Puran; whose saktis are Ugrachanda, Prachanda, Chandogra, Chandanayika, Atichanda, Chamunda, Chandanayika. Along with Rishi and metre and nyasa.

We are not aware of this mantra. If we do come across it, we will certainly publish it. Please do note that mantras have to be obtained from one's guru and not other sources, for them to be effective. For reference purposes, you may refer to our website and other sources, but please do not practice without seeking an initiation from a practicing guru.

Dear Krishna Guruji! Vanakkam If OM is prefixed to the Mantra, then it becomes 10 lettered Mantra. Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche

Yes it makes it a 10 lettered mantra. You may recite "oṃ" a few times before and after the main mantra and not as the mantra itself. In all these matters, the initiating guru is the final authority and the norms suggested, must be followed as per the tradition followed by the guru and their preceptors.

Hi sir. Does the same go with the Bala Navakshari Mantra? Should one recite with prefix OM or without OM? Thank you.

The same applies to the Śrī Bālā mantra also. As I have mentioned previously, the mantra provided by the guru is final and the initiate must follow the same.

Namaskaram Guruji, I was initiated into chandi mantra on Guru Purnima from a Kalabhairava Guruji. But I was given including OM in the beginning of Mantra. Few are saying OM is not needed. I am utterly confused whether to chant using OM or not. Please clarify guruji. OM AIM HREEM KLEEM CHAMUNDAIYE VICCHE.

What is given to you is correct, please chant with om included. Also you should follow what your Guru has given. Avoid reading outside resources as most of them are confusing in nature

Hello! Under Hrdayādi Nyāsaḥ there is a mistake in transliteration. It should be written hrūṃ - śikhāyai vaṣaṭ. Namaste!

I began chanting the Navarna Mantra back in 2018, pronouncing it as Aum AinG Hreeng Kleeng Chamudayei Vicche. However, I was unsure if this was the correct way to pronounce it. Shortly after starting the practice, my life took a turbulent turn. I had been secretly admiring a girl, and when her family approached me, we got married. However, there were frequent quarrels and arguments between our families during that period. Additionally, I did not see any growth in my career. Despite starting a clothing business, it was not successful, and I lost a fair amount of money. I chanted this mantra for over a year, but my life remained turbulent. In May 2020, I decided to stop chanting the mantra and took a break from all spiritual practices, including meditation. In August 2020, I started chanting the mantra of Ma Lakshmi, which includes the beejA Shreem. Unlike the Navrana mantra, this time I pronounced it as Shreem, not Shreeng. At that time, my life was at its lowest point financially, with hardly any balance in my bank account. Fast Forward to the end of 2021, my financial situation had changed dramatically. I experienced windfall gains from the stock market and continue to do well financially. I am still chanting the Ma Lakshmi Mantra every day. Despite my improved financial situation, my creative career in filmmaking, writing, and direction has not been successful. Marriage is also challenging. Somehow I still regret getting married. There were a lot of red flags when I was getting married but I ignored them. Currently, my only source of income is the stock market. I feel stuck in my life. I wonder if chanting the Navarana mantra as Aum Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vicche instead of Aum Aing Hreeng Kleeng Chamudayei Vicche would help me break out of this stagnation, or if there is another spiritual practice I should consider? I spend most of my days at home, feeling creatively stifled and drained of life energy. I seek guidance on how to overcome this rut. PS: I was not initiated into the Navarana mantra.

It is always best to choose a practicing guru and get initiated, as it is like lighting up from an already lit candle. Follow the nyāsas and the Āvaraṇa pūja for the Ekākṣarī Lakṣmī mantra, as well as the associated kavacas and stotras to get the maximum benefits. Continue the same for a few years and you will realize the benefits. Consistency and persistence is very important for mantra sādhana. Related to the nasalization of the bījas, it is important to recite the mantra in the mind and align with the breath. It is for this reason the nasalization is recommended. The pronunciation should remain as ̍specified in the mantra as 'm' and not 'ng'. You may practice initially as 'ng' to get the nasalization part, but stop after that. It is best to keep it as 'm' only and close the mouth while reciting in the mind and shift the focus to the nasal breathing while reciting the mantra.

Thanks for the response, Krishna Ji. I am actually chanting Aum Shreem Maha Lakshmeyei Namah. I am not doing any nyasas and avarna pooja currently, although I worship Bhagwan Sri Hari Vishnu before and after chanting , and also do Kshama Yachna "Apradh Sastrani Kriyante Aharnishammaya......". Kindly share the article link if there is any so I can perform it accurately. There was a time when I chanted Shreem as Shreeng and it did not produce good results, I was feeling insulted. It seems like a different system.
