Initiation – Required.

1.Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -

asya śrī-lakṣmī-dakṣiṇāmūrti dvā-viṃśatyakṣara mahā-mantrasya

nārāyaṇāya ṛṣaye namaḥ

jagatyai chandase namaḥ

śrīlakṣmī dakṣiṇāmūrtaye devatāyai namaḥ

śrīm̐ bījāya namaḥ

dakṣiṇāmūrtaye śaktaye namaḥ

svāhā kīlakāya namaḥ

नारायणाय ऋषये नमः

जगत्यै छन्दसे नमः

मम श्रीलक्ष्मी दक्षिणामूर्ति प्रसाद सिद्ध्यर्थे श्रीगुरोरनुज्ञाया महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning - This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Śrīlakṣmī Dakṣiṇāmūrti in our heart, perform mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, including the four puruṣārthasdharma (following own nature), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and all desires that one may seek from the Divine. The sage who visually saw this mantra (ṛṣiḥ) is Śrī Nārāyaṇa, the Preserver. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is Jagatī of forty-eight syllables and its variations. The deity is Śrī Śrīlakṣmī Dakṣiṇāmūrti, the seed (bījaṃ) is śrīm̐, the power (śakti) is dakṣiṇāmūrtaye. The key (kīlaka) that binds the mantra is svāhā. By the grace and command of our guru and the guru lineage, we pledge to undertake the mantra japa in full earnest.

2. Ṛṣyādi nyāsa (ऋष्यादि न्यास) -

Now touch the lips of the mouth with the four fingers in the right palm, excluding thumb.

Touch the heart with the right index, middle and ring fingers

Touch the area of genitals with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.

dakṣiṇāmūrtaye śaktaye namaḥ pādayoḥ ।

दक्षिणामूर्तये शक्तये नमः पादयोः  ।

Touch both the feet with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.

svāhā kīlakāya namaḥ nābhau।

स्वाहा कीलकाय नमः नाभौ।

Touch the navel with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.

Run both the palms all over the body.

3. Kara nyāsaḥ (करन्यासः) -

Use both the thumbs and run them on both the ring fingers.

lakṣmī dakṣiṇāmūrtaye - kaniṣṭikābhyāṃ vauṣaṭ

लक्ष्मी दक्षिणामूर्तये - कनिष्टिकाभ्यां वौषट् ।

Use both the thumbs and run them on both the little fingers.

svāhā - karatalakarapruṣṭābhyāṃ phaṭ

स्वाहा - करतलकरप्रुष्टाभ्यां फट् ।

Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

iti kara nyāsa

इति कर न्यासः ॥

Thus ends the six-part Kara nyāsa.

4. Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsaḥ (षडाङ्गन्यासः) -

śrīm̐ om̐ - śikhāyai vaṣaṭ

Open the right thumb and touch the back of the head. This is the point where there is a tuft of hair.

namo bhagavate - kavacāya huṃ

नमो भगवते - कवचाय हुं

Cross both the hands and touch both shoulders with the palms.

5

lakṣmī dakṣiṇāmūrtaye - netratrayāya vauṣaṭ

लक्ष्मी दक्षिणामूर्तये - नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट्

Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra.

6

svāhā - astrāya phaṭ ।

स्वाहा - अस्त्राय फट्

Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.

7

iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ

इति षडङ्ग न्यासः ॥

Thus ends the six-part Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsa.

bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ

भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् इति दिग्बन्धः

Meaning: May the directions be charmed and bound, to prevent any external obstacles from the powers residing in the triads – the Earth, atmosphere and the heavens.

5. Dhyānam (ध्यानम् ) -

dhavala-jalada-varṇaṃ candramāḥ khaṇḍacūḍaṃ paraśu-hariṇa-hastaṃ jñāna-mudrābhi-rāmaṃ

bhujaga-vara-virājaḥ kaṅkaṇā-jānu-bāhuṃ dalita-nijānrtiṃ dakṣiṇāmūrtimīḍe

śuddha sphaṭika saṅkāśaṃ trinetraṃ candraśekharaṃ catur-bhujam-udārāṅgaṃ nāga-yajñopavītinaṃ

pustakaṃ ca sudhā-kumbhaṃ nidhi-yugmaṃ ca bibhrataṃ munīndra sevitaṃ devaṃ lakṣmy-ārādhita-pādukaṃ

धवल-जलद-वर्णं चन्द्रमाः खण्डचूडं परशु-हरिण-हस्तं ज्ञानमुद्राभिरामं

भुजगवरविराजः कङ्कणाजानुबाहुं दलितनिजानार्तिं दक्षिणामूर्तिमीडे ॥

शुद्ध स्फटिक सङ्काशं त्रिनेत्रं चन्द्रशेखरं चतुर्भुजमुदाराङ्गं नागयज्ञोपवीतिनं ।

पुस्तकं च सुधाकुम्भं निधियुग्मं च बिभ्रतं मुनीन्द्र सेवितं देवं लक्ष्म्याराधितपादुकं ॥

Meaning: Salutation to Lord Dakṣiāmūrti, who is cloud white in appearance, adorned with a crescent on His diadem and bearing an axe and holding a deer in His lower arms and displaying the pleasing wisdom granting jñāna mudrā and a hooded serpent on His upper arms. He is decorated with dazzling bracelets and anklets. He is the dispeller of sorrow and misery and has the unique ability of uplifting those who are completely broken and shattered emotionally, materially and in all aspects!

The axe is for severing from bad karma, the deer represents calmness, composure and balance – the sattva guṇa. The serpent represents the activation of the cakras and the Kuṇḍalinī energy within.

Salutations to the feet of the Divine Mother Lakṣmī, who appears crystal clear in appearance, is three-eyed, adorned with a crescent moon, a coiled serpent from Her belly to the shoulders like a sacred thread and bearing in Her four arms, a book, pot containing the divine nectar and two treasure chests. She is actively served by devoted saints, celestial gods and all elevated souls who are in Her constant admiration and worship.

The crescent moon signifies the descent of the consciousness into matter, the three eyes signify the Sun, Moon and Fire Maṇḍalas and their śaktis. The book represents all knowledge that is known and unknown. The divine nectar is the delightful cerebral fluid emanating from the pineal gland with the activation of the Ājñā cakra and the treasure chests represent the immense material and spiritual wealth, that She grants to Her devotees.

dhyāyet anudinaṃ mantraḥ caturvarga phalāptaye

ध्यायेत् अनुदिनं मन्त्रः चतुर्वर्ग फलाप्तये ॥

Meaning: One who recites this mantra will gain all the four cherished puruṣārthas.

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the thumbs of both hands with the upper tip of the index fingers.

ya vāyvyātmane dhūpam kalpayāmi namaḥ ।

यँ वाय्व्यात्मने धूपम् कल्पयामि नमः

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

ram̐ vahnyātmane dīpam kalpayāmi namaḥ ।

रँ वह्न्यात्मने दीपम् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

vam̐ amṛtātmane naivedyam kalpayāmi namaḥ ।

वँ अमृतात्मने नैवेद्यम् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs.

sam̐ sarvātmane karpūramiśrita tāmbūlādi sarvopacārān kalpayāmi namaḥ ।

सँ सर्वात्मने कर्पूरमिश्रित ताम्बूलादि सर्वोपचारान् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of the fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

Thus ends the Pañcapūjā.

7. Mantraḥ (मन्त्रः) -

om̐ śrīm̐ aim̐ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ om̐ namo bhagavate lakṣmī dakṣiṇāmūrtaye svāhā

ॐ श्रीँ ऐँ ह्रीँ श्रीँ ॐ नमो भगवते लक्ष्मी दक्षिणामूर्तये स्वाहा

Meaning: This is a twenty-two syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –

  1. The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ () consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
  2. The bīja (seed) mantra śrīm̐ (श्रीँ) consists of – śa’ indicates Mahālakṣmī, repha ‘ra’ indicates dhana or wealth, ‘ī’ indicates tuṣṭi or satisfaction, m̐’ denotes nāda indicating parā or śakti and vindu indicates duḥkhahara or removal of all miseries.
  3. The Aiśvarya mātṛkā and Sarasvatī bīja aim̐ (ऐँ), represents and bestows immense knowledge, mastery in arts and amazing creativity.
  4. The bīja (seed) mantra hrīm̐ (ह्रीँ) consists of – ‘h’ => Brahman/śiva, ‘r’ => fire and drive within us, ‘ī’ => energy and the source of all power that helps us ascend, ‘m̐ => removal of all miseries and facilitator of self-realization and ultimate liberation.
  5. The bījas śrīm̐ and om̐ are reinvoked to lock in the benefits of the other two bījas aim̐ – and hrīm̐.
  6. The bīja (seed) mantra namo (नमो) refers to our salutations to the Divine and constitutes a bond that is nurtured in our heart.
  7. The words “bhagavata lakṣmī dakṣiṇāmūrtaye (भगवते लक्ष्मी दक्षिणामूर्तये)” refer to the Divine eminence of the Divine Mother Śrī Lakṣmī, the Goddess of wealth and sustenance, as well as of Śrī Dakṣiṇāmūrti, referred in the vocative case.
  8. The Vahnisundarī bīja (seed) mantra svāhā (स्वाहा) represents complete submission and surrender to the Divine.

Salutations to the highly revered Divine Mother and Father in the form of Śrī Lakṣmī Dakṣiṇāmūrti [form of Lord Śiva (Nārāyaṇa) and the Divine Mother Śakti (Lakṣmī)] to bestow upon us prudence, wisdom and spiritual knowledge and also lead us towards liberation from the bindings of the mundane world!

He grants spiritual knowledge and transforms us completely and makes us realize that we are none other than the blemish-less and pure super-consciousness, known as Brahman.

The Divine Mother grants immense material and spiritual wealth to all Her sincere devotees.

The 22 lettered Śrī Śrīlakṣmī Dakṣiṇāmūrti mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.

8. Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsaḥ (षडाङ्गन्यासः) -

11. Samarpaṇam (समर्पणम्) –

guhyādi guhya goptvātvam gṛhaṇāsmat kṛtaṃ japaṃ
siddhirbhavatu me deva tvat prasadān mayī sthirā

गुह्यादि गुह्य गोप्त्वात्वम् गृहणास्मत् कृतं जपं ।

सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत् प्रसदान् मयी स्थिरा

Meaning: O Lord, you are the most hidden secret of all secrets. May these mantra japa counts performed by me, be offered to you in totality. Our prayers and hope, are that your grace shall remain with us always.
