We meditate upon Lord Kubera seated upon an aerial vehicle (vimāna) driven by humans and is dazzling with the luster of a blue sapphire. He is the treasurer of all material wealth, a close friend of Lord Śiva (Rudra). He is wearing a dazzling crown consisting of all precious ornaments and is holding a mace and displaying the wish granting Vara mudra. He is pot-bellied with a prominent navel.

The aerial flight and the human inference, signifies our own dependence upon Lord Kubera for our material sustenance. His association with Lord Śiva (Rudra), signifies that He can be quite easily pleased with sincere devotion and bestows prosperity freely without any pre-conditions. The mace signifies pounding the bad karmas to allow for the wish granting Vara mudra to bestow all the desired riches upon His sincere devotees.

9.Atha Pañcatriṃśatākṣara Śrī Kubera Mahā Mantraḥ (अथ पञ्चत्रिंशताक्षर श्री कुबेर महामन्त्रः) -

The 35 lettered mantra of Śrī Kubera is -

yakṣāya kuberāya vaiśravaṇāya dhana dhānyādhipataye dhana dhānya samṛddhiṃ me dehi dāpaya svāhā

यक्षाय कुबेराय वैश्रवणाय धन धान्याधिपतये धन धान्य समृद्धिं मे देहि दापय स्वाहा ।

The mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is suggested.

Meaning:-

Yakṣā-s are a type of celestial beings with great magical powers and considered to be nearer to the humans compared to the Deva-s. They seem to be more connected with the human emotions and desires and are often invoked for quick fulfilment of desires. Their grace is not considered permanent in comparison to the higher deities, but nevertheless, they fulfil the timely requirement of their devotees.

Kubera, also called as Kuvera and referred to as Vaiśravaṇa or Jambhala in Buddhism and Sarvahna in Jainism. His physical deformities are referenced in His name.

He is the son of Viśravaṇa, meaning fame and thus His name is also Vaiśravaṇa.

The word ‘dhana’ is wealth. The words ‘dhānya’ and ‘samṛddhiṃ’, refer to “grains” (and food in general, as well as richness) and “all-round prosperity” respectively. The word ‘me’ literally means “to me” and ‘dehi’ means “embody” or “empower”. The word ‘dāpaya’ is “bestow”.

The vahni bīja ‘svāhā’ signifies oblations to the deity.

We pray to Lord Kubera to bestow all types of prosperity upon us and make us materially wealthy!

His gāyatrī mantra is –

yakṣarājāya vidmahe

vaiśravanāya dhīmahi

tanno kubera pracodayāt

यक्षराजाय विद्महे ।

वैश्रवनाय धीमहि ।

तन्नो कुबेर प्रचोदयात् ॥

Meaning - May the King of all Yakṣā-s, Lord Kubera, the son of Vśravaṇa, kindle our intellect and illumine it!

This gāyatrī mantra of Kubera should be recited as 1/10th of the regular mantra japa.
