9. Mūla Mantraḥ (मूलमन्त्रः) -

om̐ kṣmyrau sahasrāra hum̐ phaṭ

क्ष्म्य्रौँ सहस्रार हुँ फट् ॥

The 8 lettered Śrī Sudarśana mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.

Meaning - This is an eight syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –

  1. The bīja (seed) mantra “om̐ ()” consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
  2. The bīja (seed) mantra kṣmyrau (क्ष्म्य्रौँ) is a variation of the Tumburu (Indian/Ceylon ebony tree) bīja (seed) mantra kmryūm̐ (क्ष्म्र्यूँ) consisting of – ‘kṣ’ indicates Nṛsiṃha, as well the beginning and the end of the entire Creation, ‘m’ indicates Mahākāla – the Lord of Time and by extension timelessness, ‘r’ indicates Brahma the Creator, ‘y’ signifies the air (vāyu) element and is the essential breath (prāṇa) that is required for survival, ‘au’ indicates Sthita, the one who is established in and remains, (m̐) for Vindu/Bindu or Duḥkhaharaṇa – removal of all misery. Overall, this bīja provides the rock-solid strength of the ebony wood and relieves us of all bad karmic influences acquired over millenia and its effects remain consistent and stationary.
  3. The word ”sahasrāra (सहस्रार)” a thousand spokes of the Śrī Sudarśana Cakra and the effectiveness of its blazing blades. In other words, the weapon is a thousand folds greater than any other comparable weapon in the entire Creation. The word also refers to the subtle thousand petaled lotus in the astral body present at the top of our head which is the meeting point of Śiva and Śakti when the Kuṇḍalinī energy reaches its zenith.
  4. The Kavaca bīja (seed) mantra “hum̐ (हुँ)” invokes protection from all harmful entities inimical to us. In the context of this mantra, it is for spiritual and material desires. Hum̐ (हुँ) consists of – ‘h’ => Brahman/śiva, ‘u’ => destruction of all fear and stillness within, ‘m̐’ => remove misery.
  5. The Astra bīja (seed) mantra “phaṭ (फट्)” signifies destruction of all evil and misery.

Salutations to the highly revered Divine in the form of Śrī Sudarśana, the discus (Cakra) weapon of Lord Viṣṇu, the Sustainer and Protector of all realms. May the most destructive and always effective and most cherished weapon and form of the Lord, remove all our fears, release us from all types of karmic debts and offer His protection at all times for us and our loved ones.
