Meaning: Salutations to Lord Sāmba Dakṣiṇāmūrti, who is none other than an emanation of Lord Śiva (Rudra) together with His consort Śakti (Pārvatī) seated on His left thigh in a loving embrace. He is adorned with a crescent moon and bears in His four arms, a book, a pot containing the immortality granting amṛta nectar, displays the wisdom granting gesture (jñāna mudrā) and also holds a string of fifty-one pearls (mālā).

The akṣa mālā indicates the mātṛkā śaktis manifested in the Creation and their vibrations and sound frequencies. The vessel of ambrosia represents the cerebral fluid that is recognized in deep meditation. The wisdom granting mudra allows us to receive His blessings and thereby gain spiritual knowledge and realize the true nature of Brahman, which is the super-consciousness. The book contains all the spiritual and material knowledge of the Creation. The crescent moon represents the descent of consciousness into matter - prakṛti.

7. Mantraḥ (मन्त्रः) -

o aim̐ namaḥ klīm̐ śivāya sauḥ

ॐ ऐँ नमः क्लीँ शिवाय सौः

Meaning: This is a nine syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –

  1. The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ () consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
  2. The Aiśvarya mātṛkā and Sarasvatī bīja aim̐ (ऐँ), represents and bestows immense knowledge, mastery in arts and amazing creativity.
  3. The bīja (seed) mantra namaḥ (नमः) refers to our salutations to the Divine and constitutes a bond that is nurtured in our heart.
  4. The bīja (seed) mantra klīm̐ (क्लीँ) consists of – ‘ka’ is for Kāmadeva or Kṛṣṇa, indicating all our wishes, aspirations and desires, ‘la’ for indra indicating victory in all undertakings, ‘ī’ for tuṣṭi, meaning fulfillment and contentment, ‘m̐’ for sukha, meaning enjoyment as well as removal of all miseries and facilitation of self-realization and ultimate liberation.
  5. The word śivāya (शिवाय) represents Lord Śiva and His tattva of super-consciousness.
  6. The Parā bīja saum̐ (सौँ), culminates in the experience of self-realization and ultimate liberation.

Salutations to the highly revered Divine in the form of Śrī Sāmba Dakṣiṇāmūrti (form of Lord Śiva and the Divine Mother Śakti) to bestow upon us prudence, wisdom and spiritual knowledge and also lead us towards liberation from the bindings of the mundane world!

He grants spiritual knowledge and transforms us completely and makes us realize that we are none other than the blemish-less and pure super-consciousness, known as Brahman.

The concept of Śiva-Śakti-aikya is also seen in the mixing of the Śrī Bālā mantra with the Śiva Pañcākṣarī to frame the 9 lettered mantra of Śrī Sāmba Dakṣiṇāmūrti. The hint for this is also seen in the dhyāna śloka.

The 9 lettered Śrī Sāmba Dakṣiṇāmūrti mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.
