Sarvasamṛddhidāyaka cintāmaṇi ekākṣara mahāmantraḥ
(सर्वसमृद्धिदायक चिन्तामणि एकाक्षर महामन्त्रः)

Purpose – Wish fulfillment and prosperity bestowal.
Prologue – Cintāmaṇi literally translates to a “thought gem” or a wish-fulfilling gem. It is said to be a gemstone that grants all wishes of its bearer. In this context, it is a mantra belonging to Lord Ardhanārīśvara and as per some texts, Umāmaheśvara.
1.Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -
asyaśrī cintāmaṇi mahāmantrasya ।
kaśyapa ṛṣiḥ ।
anuṣṭup chandaḥ ।
umāmaheśvaro/ardhanārīśvaro devatā ।
ram̐ bījaṃ ।

अस्यश्री चिन्तामणि महामन्त्रस्य ।
कश्यप ऋषिः ।
अनुष्टुप् छन्दः ।
उमामहेश्वरो/अर्धनारीश्वरो देवता ।
रँ बीजं ।
औँ शक्तिः ।
मम सर्वसमृद्धि प्राप्त्यर्थे श्रीगुरोरनुज्ञाया महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगः ॥
Meaning - This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Ardhanārīśvara in our heart, perform mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, including the four puruṣārthas – dharma (following own nature), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and all desires that one may seek from the Divine. The sage who visually saw this mantra (ṛṣiḥ) is Kaśyapa. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is Anuṣṭup of thirty-two syllables and its variations. The deity is Śrī Ardhanārīśvara (or Umāmaheśvara), the seed (bījaṃ) is ram̐, the power (śakti) is aum̐. By the grace and command of our guru and the guru lineage, we pledge to undertake the mantra japa in full earnest.

यँ - करतलकरप्रुष्टाभ्यां फट् । |
Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm. |

इति कर न्यासः ॥ |
Thus ends the six-part Kara nyāsa. |
4. Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsaḥ (षडाङ्गन्यासः) -

Cross both the hands and touch both shoulders with the palms. |

ram̐ - netratrayāya vauṣaṭ । |
रँ - नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् । |
Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra. |
6 |
yam̐ - astrāya phaṭ । |
यँ - अस्त्राय फट् । |
Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand. |
7 |
iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ ॥ |
इति षडङ्ग न्यासः ॥ |
Thus ends the six-part Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsa. |
bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ ॥
भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् इति दिग्बन्धः ॥
Meaning: May the directions be charmed and bound, to prevent any external obstacles from the powers residing in the triads – the Earth, atmosphere and the heavens.
5. Dhyānam (ध्यानम् ) -
āhiśaśa-dhara-gaṅgābaddha-tuṅgāpta-mauli tridaśa-gaṇanatāṅghris-trīkṣaṇaḥ strī-vilāsaḥ ।
bhujaga-paraśu-śūlān khaḍga-vahnī kapālaṃ śaramapi dhanurīśo bibhradavyāc-ciraṃ vaḥ ॥
अहिशशधरगङ्गाबद्धतुङ्गाप्तमौलि त्रिदशगणनताङ्घ्रिस्त्रीक्षणः स्त्रीविलासः ।
भुजगपरशुशूलान् खड्गवह्नी कपालं शरमपि धनुरीशो बिभ्रदव्याच्चिरं वः ॥
Salutations to Lord Śrī Umāmaheśvara (Lord Rudra, the Destroyer), who is adorned with a hooded serpent on His head and a crescent moon on His forehead and holds the holy ganges in His hair locks. He is served by thirty gaṇas at His holy feet and is three-eyed and engaged in pastimes with His consort Umā (Pārvatī) devi. He holds in His arms, an axe (paraśu), a trident (śūla), a sword (khaḍga), firearms (vahni), a skull (kapālaṃ), arrows (śaram) and a bow (dhanur). May we cherish Him in this form at all times to earn His eternal grace!
The hooded serpent represents a full blown Kuṇḍalinī awakening. The crescent moon indicates the descent of consciousness into the material realms. The gaṇas indicate the fact that all sentient beings are purely a product of His supreme will and grace. His pastimes with Uma devi represent the intermingling of the static and dynamic aspects of the super-consciousness. The three eyes indicate an awakened ājñā cakra that represents the balance between the material and spiritual states of existence. The holy ganges on His hair locks indicates the flow of the cerebral nectar amṛta when the cakras are fully activated. The axe represents the cutting down of deep-rooted karma that binds us to the material world and prevents our ascension. The trident pierces the triads as needed for our growth. The sword will cut through the sheaths of karmic influences that impact us on a day-to-day basis. The firearms burn away all the negative influences and energies impacting our progress. The skull represents an empty mind free of wants and desires, ready to accept the teachings of the Divine essential for ascension. The bow and arrows shoot down any targets and inimical forces marching upon us to disrupt our life and activities.
hāvabhāva-lalitārdhanārikaṃ bhīṣaṇārdham-athavā maheśvaram ।
pāśasotpala-kapāla-śūlinaṃ cintayej-japa-vidhau vibhūtaye ॥ 1 ॥
हावभावललितार्धनारिकं भीषणार्धमथवा महेश्वरम् ।
पाशसोत्पलकपालशूलिनं चिन्तयेज्जपविधौ विभूतये ॥ १ ॥
Salutations to Lord Śrī Ardhanārīśvara, whose left half is of His consort Umā in a playful demeanor and the right half is of Himself – Maheśvara in an aggressive posture. He holds a rope (pāśa) and a lotus (Utpala) in His left arms, as well as a skull (kapāla) and a trident (śūlinaṃ) in His right arms. May we meditate upon this form of the Divine Lord in His half-male and half-female form, to request His grace to balance our life and bestow an abundance of both material and spiritual wealth, for our complete welfare and happiness.
The rope (pāśa) pulls us away from all types of distractions to shift our focus to the Divine. The lotus (Utpala) represents evolution in both material and spiritual pursuits. The skull (kapāla) denotes an empty mind that is receptive to the true knowledge that can reveal the purpose of our existence. The trident (śūlinaṃ) pierces all the triads and leads us to experience them to the fullest and transcend them for spiritual evolution.
athavā ṣoḍaśa-śūla-vyagra-bhujā trinayan-āhinaddhāṅgī ।
aruṇāṃ-śukānulepana-varṇābharaṇā ca bhagavatī dhyeyā ॥ 2 ॥
अथवा षोडशशूलव्यग्रभुजा त्रिनयनाहिनद्धाङ्गी ।
अरुणांशुकानुलेपनवर्णाभरणा च भगवती ध्येया ॥ २ ॥
Salutations to Lord Śrī Ardhanārīśvara in His aggressive form of sixteen arms holding weapons such as a trident (śūla) and adorning tiger skin and three-eyed with His body shared in half by His consort. He is adorned in parrot red garments. May we meditate upon Him to obtain all our cherished wishes and desires.
The trident (śūlinaṃ) pierces all the triads and leads us to experience them to the fullest and transcend them for spiritual evolution. The tiger skin denotes aggression and combined with the red garments indicates passion in achieving all the objectives and goals set forth by us.
6. Pañcapūjā (पञ्चपूजा) -

Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of the fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position. |

7. Mūla Mantraḥ (मूलमन्त्रः) -
rkṣmryauūm̐ ॥
र्क्ष्म्र्यौऊँ ॥
The 1 lettered Śrī Ardhanārīśvara mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.
Meaning - This is a 1 syllabled mantra made up of many syllables combining to form the bīja (seed) mantra. The parts of the main mantra including the syllables that make up the bīja mantra are described below. –
- The bīja (seed) mantra “r (र्)” consists of Anala, denoting fire, passion and aggression.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “k (क्)” denotes Kāma, denoting desires, wants and wishes. From a spiritual perspective, it denotes cit śakti or pure consciousness.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “ṣ (ष्)” denotes māyā śakti, which is the cosmic virtual reality surrounding the consciousness and giving it the impression that it’s an independent being and also providing the cognitive faculties to recognize the Creation around it and fully masking the Absolute Truth, that is none other than the pure super-consciousness Itself and not the body or mind! Our lives are entirely within the realm of the dyads and triads manifested by Māyā. This bīja creates a fertile ground for the manifestation of our desires.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “m (म्)” indicates Mahākāla – the Lord of Time and by extension timelessness.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “r (र्)” denotes Repha – a burning desire for accumulation of dhana or wealth, prosperity, property, authority, health, education etc.,
- The bīja (seed) mantra “y (य्)” denotes Prāṇa the essential breath among the vital airs (vāyu) element that is required for survival.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “au (औ)” indicates Satyānta, the one who is established in Truth and remains within its bounds.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “ū (ऊ)” indicates Vāmaśruti, the vibrations of the Divine Mother Umā in the form of the mātṛkā śaktis which are the vibrations of the entire Creation that manifest both the subtle and gross elements that are present within it.
- The bīja (seed) mantra “m̐ (ँ)” for Candrakhaṇḍa denoting Vindu/Bindu or Duḥkhaharaṇa – removal of all misery and fruition of the desires. Overall, this bīja mantra manifests our burning desires, by aligning our life force to the aspects of the super-consciousness (Śrī Ardhanārīśvara) and churns all the forces in the Creation to fulfill our desires in a timely manner by removing all the karmic blocks impacting our progress.

11. Samarpaṇam (समर्पणम्) –
guhyādi guhya goptvātvam gṛhaṇāsmat kṛtaṃ japaṃ ।
siddhirbhavatu me deva tvat prasadān mayī sthirā ॥
गुह्यादि गुह्य गोप्त्वात्वम् गृहणास्मत् कृतं जपं ।
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत् प्रसदान् मयी स्थिरा ॥
Meaning: O Lord, you are the most hidden secret of all secrets. May these mantra japa counts performed by me, be offered to you in totality. Our prayers and hope, are that your grace shall remain with us always.
